Heading West Monday for more prairie dogging. This time the 16 y/o son & 2 of his friends are coming. I’ll be more of an assistant, hopefully some shooting. I have plenty of 223 ammo, 3 guns, then a 204 Ruger.

To me it’s more fun than deer or big game hunting.

That's something I'd love to try, I'd have to make a road trip out of it though. No prairie dogs here in the desert

That video was funny, yes, ‘flushable wipes’ are an essential item to bring. One can’t be driving in every hour. I’m taking the ‘grampa truck‘(Though not a grampa), it’s a Silverado with a camper shell for gear. I did recently give the front a 2” lift for this trip.

That picture above was a few years ago, we don’t lay on the bare ground anymore, mats or chairs now.

Is this a lease, your land, public land? Something I've always wanted to do. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Public access land. Good tools are google earth, the ‘On X hunt’, app, then a bunch of correlation with historical dog town locations & other maps. I have a few more years with the younger son, so don’t want to publicize my spots yet.

Even a visit to the tiny town cafe can provide leads, as does local chambers of commerce, I’ve done those too.

Thank you! Completely understand keeping your spots to yourself. Half the fun is finding them anyway. I didn't know that there was prairie dog hunting on public lands.

Ranchers & farmers usually don’t want prairie dogs around, shooting is a poor means of control. Some don’t like the idea of anyone shooting them, most ranchers/farmers quietly poison them. There are rules & regulations on the use of poison, early in the year, before babies, poison placed underground, away from scavengers, etc.. There are also limits with amount of poison & how often it’s used, yes there are always ways around rules.

Anyway, I don’t put any pictures of shot up prairie dogs on Facebook.

They're everywhere in Colorado. Most land owners in the SE will let you hunt them. 20 years ago they'd even pay for your ammo.
