You can run distilled in it for a bit to flush it all out. Wouldn’t really recommend tap water just because it’ll end up making more of a mess in these old iron blocks (especially if your water has a lot of calcium in it like ours!)

    Ok...time for a final update.
Got the coolant in it a while back and been driving it around. Everything seems good so far. Temperature holds steady, throws good heat in the cab. No leaks. So far so good.
I ended up doing new front calipers and rotors along with some new brake lines.
I also had to weld some frame reinforcement in a spot on each side behind the front wheels. Looks like all the sale and dirt build up and rusted from inside out. I used some large thick pieces and seems to have worked out well.
    Overall happy with my progress.
Now to search the forum and find out how to replace bulbs in my heater controls and few other dials....hard to find them in the dark.

I had a 2002 4-Runner with failed dash and control knob bulbs and was told by Toyota that they were actually tiny LED's embedded in the circuitry and not replaceable without replacing each circuit board. A very expensive venture which I declined and I passed on to new owner.

Nice! The bulbs can be accessed by removing the 3 control knobs to reveal three screws. The other two screws are up in the two air vents above the radio. Once all 5 screws are removed then pinch and pull the panel towards you to pop it out.

Your rusting from the inside out story is the reason I squirt PB Penetration up in the boxed frame and the little Punch Out squares where the frame overlaps.
