I few months ago I was supting an occupied apartment renovation since we were short-staffed at the time. A complete gut of the units, new flooring, cabinets, adding microwave, washer/dryer circuits, the whole works. It was 8AM on a Monday morning, and I was up on the top floor BSing with the plumber. I get a call from sparky say he hit a water line. I run down the stairs and water is POURING into the basement. Water everywhere. I find the maintenance guy to the building and we run up to where the line was hit. It was a PVC sprinkler line. Awesome. We rush down and try shut off that riser. Doesn’t work. So we run to the water main of the building and kill it there. Keep in mind, the whole time we’re running around, the fire alarms are going off, and water is coming it gallons per second.

it seemed like for ever, but we got it off in probably 7 or 8 minutes. Meanwhile, my painting crew is all barefoot, bailing water out the windows with mudpans and paint buckets.

mended up flooding about 1/10 of the building and causing an estimated 75,000 in damage. We had to go back and redo nearly all the units we had just completed due to water damage, all because he didn’t pay attention when he was drilling with his whole saw. Young guy too. He definitely learned his lesson!

best part is, we didn’t miss any delivery dates with our move-backs. We did the building in groups of 3 units, and have about 3 weeks to compete each group, which means there are 9 units going on at once.

That fella will remember that. I know I would.

I remember standing by the extrusion line talking with an operator after JUST completing a heater band repair...

I'm explaining what I did, and yadda yadda...

I feel a few sprits of water, like a mist hit my face... and I turn my head to the left to the 4 inch water lines...

It was like something out of a movie. This 4 inch water line has bubbled up due to a weak spot, and was straining... almost groaning in pain...

I snap my head back to the operator and tell him to RUN! We are standing right next to the electrical connection boxes for the heaters....

I run towards to the valve (which is on the other side of a very long table. Roughly 50 feet long.) By the time I made it to the end of the table the hose burst, and sent water directly onto the electrical panels...

I turn the valve off, and then gtfo of there before the water puddling on the floor made it to where I was standing. Then I radio for help.

Anytime we have a sprinkler system leak the fire department always shows up. Once a year someone will hit the sprinkler system with the mast on a forklift...

My first girlfriend had some hairy-ness in the described area. I had to educate myself, and then educate her on femine hygiene. (Not even regarding the hair.) Her mother did not teach her the things she needed to know about her own body.

What kind of a facility do you work in? Or like what do they make?
There’s one guy at work who has had the worst luck with leaks and line breakages, so whenever we’re working together I make sure he does all the water related stuff(keep the luck with him) but I’ve had to come across campus to a mechanical room pumping water to the 3rd floor where he broke a fitting off the chilled water; and shut the pumps and make up water off. Surprisingly it didn’t cause to much damage(we have tons of blowers and extractors for such the occasion)

while all the “residents” are gone, someone thought it was important to run water in every bathroom, sink, shower, floor drain; to keep the traps wet........no one owned up to it, but a shower was left on in the 3rd floor for 6 days, and it was aimed at the handle trim ring. It wiped out the two bathrooms below, caused soooo much damage. We haven’t been wetting traps since......

most fun I’ve had is raw sewage backup, all down the residents halls(80ft hallways) and had to snake it from the showers; that have a 6” lip on them.......I had to get in there to get it done, but!!!!!! The residents are walking down the hallway barefoot!!!!! And you can smell that it’s not just like sink water. I was on that call until 5am while the restoration company cleaned it up.

I work in a single story factory that makes weatherstrip primarily for toyota, and Lexus. Some ford and one GM process. We also make airbags for toyota, and Subaru. We got into that business after Takata went bust...

Sounds like your cohort has the same luck as me.

    Regarding raw sewage...

My little brother went through a cinder block busting phase...

Found lots of our "winter weight" blocks busted up. Due to erosion our Distribution box had maybe 3-4 inches of concrete sticking through the ground....

You can see where I'm going with this.

Yeah, he busted up our D-box...

For some reason I've been dreading this repair... I guess because I'm in uncharted waters so to speak.

Will be wire wheeling, and etching in the places I cannot get the grinder. Starting to think I should have bought the M12 oscillating tool instead of the sawzall for this job.

Going with a friction fit to eliminate the welding. Should I do that before, paint or after?

Cleaning up all the Moto-man spot welds too. I guess the heat from the welding changed the composition of the metaland made those spots more susceptible to rust. 20200613_124042.jpg

Did a 30 minute etch, and then mineral spirits hand wash.

Waiting on primer to dry now.

I think the friction fit is fine. Effectively they're there simply to prevent the bolts from compressing the metal - no other purpose I can imagine.
I would say paint first. You want to eliminate every bit of raw metal you can. Paint it, jamb your spacers in, touch up, Bob's your uncle.

Still trying to find a supplier for a 3X3 tube.

I thought about getting two 4 foot sections and running it across the whole bed. No cutting. Just drilling. Think I willl pass on the whole stick method.
    I have called the local:
    1. Rural king.
    2. Home value stores (like ace.)
    3. Another ace similar store.
    4. Lowe's
    5. Tractor supply.
Lowe's really pissed me off. I have called them 3 times this week and always gave up after 45 minutes of being on hold and being swapped from plumbing to electrical to ANYTHING other than building supplies. Sheesh.

So... the bed support tubes are NOT welded to the top of the bed at the tailgate. Only welded on the underside.

I’d put some very light layer of Fuzeit on the raw scratch metal and work it in/on with your finger and then do your friction fit. The pieces should slide on easier with the product. Once in place then build up some nice beads around the piping. The nights humidity will cure it really quickly.

So I realize a DC tundra isn’t a car or a sporty car, but after a stint with a stupid Benz wagon going 10 under, and then 55 when I go to pass on city streets; I realize I need to at least put my sway bar links back in, or get the extendos from @Mstudt, and probably order headers and full exhaust from keister, sooner than later.
Also need to look at bleeding my breaks and making sure they are tip top. The corner came pretty fast and lots of body roll, nothing I couldn’t control, but that German was a pesky wanker, that wouldn’t let up.

I used to have road rage daily from my other job, so it’s been a while.

I had 17 year old window tint removed from the door windows, and then installed new ceramic tint on those windows plus ceramic on the windshield. This is the 1st time I've had a windshield tinted, and I can already feel the difference - it's much cooler.

Back when I had zero worries in the wuurrld and my front sway bar links were broken off and the bar just hanging there for 2? years, I would wobble around corners like Bubba Gumps Fishing Trawler. You want to add some performance? Reconnect the front and get a Hellwig 7700 for the rear. Wooooweee!!!
