One note I would add on the camera... It looks like this is a reverse camera only. So if you install it in the front grill, the video will be a mirror-image. Some cameras will do both functions but it doesn't look like this one will.

Thanks Lou. I’m seeing that in the Amazon Q&A now too.

Do you have a recommended camera that works well with an 18 sr5 grill?

I have a 2016 Platinum with a PRO grill. I want to purchase this FRAC system but I do not know how to pic a camera to work. Can anyone suggest a camera that will work great with the mod and grill. I don’t mind spending a little money for quality and simplicity.

    Thanks

You can check out the product links at the bottom of this thread window. Most guys are buying the Natika Front/Rear Cam. $30, durable, good picture, warranty.

I’m a bit more limited on the cameras that are available in Canada, but I have this one on order.

    https://www.amazon.ca/PARKVISION-Universal-180°Wide-Multiview-Standard/dp/B07K2PKT8L

I really wanted to find one that will show as low down in front of the truck as possible for off-road and parking.

Cost me about $42 USD. Will report back in a few weeks once I receive and get a chance to install.

Where did you get the camera? I have the PRO grill and need the info for the camera so that I can purchase everything for the install. The one suggested was sold out.

    Thanks

    @TundraTex
Doing a dry run on my Frac harness I purchased this camera https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JCSYPPS/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Basically it comes with a trigger wire that it says to run to the car. My question is do I ignore the trigger switch when using the Frac harness? I've watched you video and you make no mention of it this is the same brand camera just different.

I'm assuming I just hook it up per the video and cap off the trigger line?

I don't have personal experience with this version of the Natika camera, but based on the diagram, I would connect the red trigger wire on connector "C" to the trigger wire on connector "D". Then connect the trigger wire on connector "B" to the FRAC Harness red power wire. Then connect the black ground wire of the camera power cable to chassis ground somewhere in the engine bay and cap off the red wire on the camera power cable.

To confirm this is the right approach, before you make any connections, use a meter to check continuity between the "C" trigger wire and the red power cable wire. They are likely internally spliced inside connector "C".

Let me know how this works out.

You were spot on wired it just like you said. It was kind of nice one less wire to fish through.

Another successful satisfied Frac harness installation! Thank you Lou!

So how the install went and some suggestions?

    1. The YouTube video is great it’s all you need. If you haven’t already had experience pulling apart the interior there are plenty how to’s on YouTube. This isn’t my first mod so the interiors is a breeze. And yes going the passenger side is 1000 times easier than the drivers side. I had to go through the firewall on the driver side for my amp steps, brutal.

    2. Make sure you get a camera that supports front view, my first purchase was a bust. There are a lot of Natika models on Amazon so pay attention. I went with their license plate version. I thought the long horizontal mount would give be better options on my TRD progrill and it does.

    3. The activation switches, my Limited DC cab with the knight rider light bar has zero available locations so I had to get creative. I do not like the location of the light bar switches they are hard to see and get to. So I decided between ease of use and my ability to easily replace the interior piece back to stock if needed. Picture below, I like the location and honestly what a worthless tray

    4. Camera location, I had no idea other than trying to center and wing it. I highly recommend you keep plenty of slack under the hood should you decide to relocate like I will be. Also my first try I didn’t even need to take of the grill just zip tied it on it’s plenty secure. As you can see from the pic I either have it too high or upside down or both lol! I will be lifting/leveling the truck 2.5” in the next couple weeks so it would only get worse. I’m not sure about the guide lines I have the ability to cut the wire and remove completely, but I’m going to wait and see how relocation goes first. You can see in the pic where it is now blue circle, the red circle below the garnish will be my next try.

This a nice kit well thought out and worth the cost. If I had any suggestions / questions it’s only 3.

    1. Another foot or two on the activation switch leads would be nice as I had to go further. Not a big deal I have plenty of connectors so I just spliced some more on.

    2. If possible? Could you offer another version that gave you either a physical cable for phone/accessories hook up or even better casting? I hear the screen res on the stock is not so good but hey if I’m just killing time I’m not going to really care. I’d assume this would be more $$ but given the option I’d go for upgrade version.

    3. Is there a way to record either by camera upgrade with like an SD card or a different circuit board for a future version of the harness. In my motorcycle accident I was running a GoPro and I would of been screwed because there would of been no evidence I was run off the road. This would be a huge ability I’m willing to pay for.

    Thanks again Lou!

SwitchPro is just a switch. I have not because that is an expensive switch for a camera

Yes. I know of a few customers who have done that. I also include instructions for how to connect to a Switch Pros in the FRAC installation manual.

All the hook ups look correct and the most important thing is it states it will do front view. I'd say 99.99 it will work.

Looks like it should work. I also noticed yesterday that the Natika Front/Rear cam is available again on Amazon.

Yes. There is a mini DVR link in the product window at the bottom of the thread discussion. Using that or a similar product, simply connect the front camera Video RCA plug to the input of the DVR and then connect the DVR output to the Front Cam Video input on the FRAC Harness. This puts the DVR in-line with the Front Cam video and it will record whenever the Head Unit is on. The FRAC Harness powers the front camera whenever the Head Unit has power - even if the front video is not being displayed. So video will be recorded at all times the key is On.
