So I currently own a backflip which to be honest I have no issues with except I'm not crazy about losing sight for the back window. So I wanted to try something different this time. I just ordered the Peragon cover but idk about that one bc you can't lock it in different positions, it's only opened or closed. I thought about the gator recoil as I'd be losing almost as much space as I would with a canister. Or getting a hard roll up like the bakflip one. I do live in the northeast so I know that'll factor with how well these will work in the winter time.

I'm not a fan of the Peragon just because you can't store big things towards the front if you want the ability to open the cover. Since it collapses into the bed, if there's something (i.e. cooler, gear box) preventing it from doing that you're stuck with it closed and you'll have to crawl into the bed to move whatever is up there. I REALLY wanted a Peragon, but that aspect of it is a deal breaker.

I just ended up doing a soft rollup. Yeah, it doesn't lock, but I don't keep anything super valuable in the bed for extended periods of time.

You can also take a look at LoMax covers. They are similar to the Bakflip, but can be removed easily for full bed access.

The f1 model. I like it, it's just not so simple to remove. Looking for something I can get access to most of the bed without losing back window sight.

I have the Bakflip MX4 (or close to it, it's a tri fold) and I totally understand where you are coming from. I have looked into the Paragon but it doesn't have any locking options besides fully closed and the amount of space you need to close it, ruled it out for me. If I was doing it over again, I would probably do one of the retractable hard tops that can lock in multiple location but you don't lose sight from rear window. I like the security of a solid cover verse the soft rolling. Yes, you lose a little bed space near the cab but it really isn't a ton. I don't live somewhere that gets snow so not sure how that affects you.

From your options I'd vote the Gator recoil or their other one that's the upgrade to that.

I have the revolver X4 for the past 2 years. I love the fact that it doesn't block my view at all. I live in nj and in the winter you may have to roll it up twice to get it small enough to strap it down. I also don't need to roll it up daily so it may not be great if you are a contractor or something like that. It does have a small leak at the tailgate but I've never had a cover that hasn't leaked a little.

On different Tundras, I've had the Undercover (hated that you had to plan ahead and remove it if you were going to buy something big), the electronic roll-n-lock (it would constantly trip and I'd have to open it up and reset it), the bak-flip (didn't like it for the same reasons you don't - hated covering the back window), and two of the Retrax (the MX and the XR). The Retrax are the same as the Gator, I believe, but I think you get a better price on the Gator. You lose some bed space but it's never been an issue for me and the fact that you can lock it in any position and the lock is also a handle that is on the driver's side is just well thought out and convenient. Just make sure you buy it from Retrax, Gator, or a reputable dealer. I bought the XR from JustBoltOn on eBay and it was a nightmare.

I ended up with the RetraxPro XR because you had the option of adding rails so you can put a kayak, drywall or whatever on top, otherwise I would have bought a Gator. I think you'll be happy.

Sorry, I have the RetraxPro XR. I had to think about it. Here's a link on here with people talking about it <https://www.tundras.com/threads/whos-using-the-retrax-one-xr.67438/#post-1753772>
It's good that you are having a hard time deciding and not rushing into it, they are a lot of freakin' money. What would bother me about the Vortrak and other similar covers is the Pull rope thing in the center. It seems like it would get caught up on stuff.

I went through the same "what tonneau should I buy" heartache as a million others have. Ultimately, I decided on the Diamondback HD. It has been pretty flexible and with the addition of the shims, leak free as far as I can tell. Folding the back half forward and strapping things on top has taken care of my hauling needs.

If you use the chat feature at Real Truck.com, they will usually give you a pretty decent discount. I just bought the Gator Tailback tri fold, which is identical to the Extang 2.0 tri fold but cheaper. Installation is quick and it can be locked. Had an issue with the first one I bought that had a manufacturing defect, and they sent me a new one under 1yr warranty. So far so good.

I’d go with a hard rolling cover if you don’t need the space at the front of the bed from a retractable cover.
I hear you on the lack of visibility. I took my hard folding cover off because of that. It was a great cover, just miss seeing out the back when it’s fully open.

Yeah, not working there anymore. But thanks for trying :fistbump:

I bought the Bak Vortrak and to be honest its a great cover. Customer service with them is a nightmare. I was missing the front and rear seals and they sent the wrong seals the first time, a whole new cover the second time (not complaining about this). For the money just would have hoped it would be a 100% positive experience.
