Check your service records from Lexus! Took the wife's Lexus in for routine maintenance. Saw on the service record they have changed the oil every 5,000 miles. It's synthetic! Should not be but every 10,000 miles. Oops! They gave us service credit for their past screw ups. After we used up our credits, we went to another dealership.

I would do some research on the IS250 motors...FYI.

    Good advice.

I would much prefer a 350 to avoid the carbon build up issues, but I prefer AWD if possible. I can't justify the extra cost of a n 11+ for the AWD 350.

I could use the truck on snowy days though, I guess it will depend on what I can find.

If you can, try to get a 350, it's a night and day difference from the 250.

More good advice, it's going to come down to money, what Toyota/Lexus will be reliable and affordable, unfortunately fun is the last priority.
The RWD of the part of the 350 kills me though. I was drawn toward the is because of the AWD.

Truthfully for a commuter, investment wise, I think I would be better off with a Corolla if I'm not going with AWD. It won't be as much fun though! Apples to oranges I know, but I don't mind the 14+ Corolla's, and I know it would be reliable.

This entire forum is a bad influence on my piggy bank, Tundra related or not haha.

@MotoTundra it's fun spending other people's money. LOL. The 350 does have a snow mode that reduces torque and starts you off in higher gears in an attempt to keep the car controllable in snowy / ice conditions. Obviously, it isn't as stable as AWD, but it has something. My wife's 350 is a hoot to drive, but down here in the south, I don't have to worry about snow and all that crap.

I can tell you this, my 350 doesn't move in the snow, quite literally. Lol

Well, mine has Michelin Pilot tires, and those are far from winter tires, or even all season.

The next set of tires I buy will be an all season tire that works in light snow or I'm getting snow tires and a set of wheels off CL.

Check out Club Lexus. Pretty good and informative site.

As for the motor issues on the 250, I personally know two people that have had engine swaps do to this issue. One was covered, the other was not.

A buddy of mine purchased a IS300 awd and really likes it. Same motor a the 350, but detuned like 50 hp. Probably well out of your price range though for a commuter car.

We have had three 250 AWD in the family...still have 2 now...no issues on cb so far....well I sold mine at 40k miles...the other 2 are at about 110k miles already...all are 2007.

All about maintenance and how you do it.

Sounds like you are doing a great job in that department.

The ones I was talking about used quick lubes. One was at 98k and the other was just over 126k miles.

My 350 was very appealing to me due to every service done by the Lexus dealership only. That and 60k miles on a 9 year old car.

We would have bought the 350 in December 2006 if it came with AWD...I love that engine...a blast to drive....

Yep, and worthless in snow. Lol

I'm kinda hoping tires help in that department, like a lot.

I tested the new HID light out last night for 110 miles. Works great! We did mostly mountain passes with a lot of corners. Good times, until the misses got motion sick. No Bueno on that.

I also like the auto level/turning function of these factory headlamps.

    All great info @louscrw , @ColoradoTJ , and @GoHuskers .

Hopefully I will know when "the one" comes along. The engine swap stuff scares me.

Back in 2007 I almost bought a used is300, the older style. It was owned by an older gentleman, manual transmission, perfect condition. I didn't buy it and I have regretted it since. I found a great deal on a 1991 Honda CRX and got 46mpg haha. It was a death cart so I sold it after dumping a ton of miles on it for $200 less than what I paid. Almost went with an is250 after that, but I found a great deal on a Corolla, which got the job done except for getting caught in the unexpected bad weather, hence wanting AWD.

The first generation IS300 cars are pretty fun. Stock they are ok power wise, spend a little on turbo...hold on.

If I lived in the NE part of the US, I would have an AWD something.
