Got stopped Memorial Day on a two lane highway. 72 in a 55. If I get it knocked to 69 it’s 3pts, South Carolina. Told the officer my speedo is off because of lift and tires (leveling and 34s) and that I thought I was doing 65. Told me if I get it calibrated the judge will help me out. Called local Toyota dealerships and they said it’s illegal for them to do it. Called 4wp, local 4x4 shops and my mechanic. All said they won’t touch it. Thinking right now my best bet is to document everyone who said they won’t do it and tell the judge now I know and it won’t happen again.

Anyone have any advice? Worst case, it’s a 4pt ticket and I take a driving class that knocks 4pts off the license for $100

Your only option I think is more then the 100 dollars but it will put a smile on your face when you hit the gas. Is to get a bullydog tunner you can put in tire size and it will tell you how fast your actually going on its gage. But a bullydog gt tunner is 400 buck. I would just pay it. I guess smh

There is no excuse for going 17mph over the posted max. If your speedometer really is off because of your lift, that is your fault, a judge won't and shouldn't care.

    Pay up and slow down.

Plea not guilty and go to court. Ask for leniency because it is your first offence (I assume it is.) Be very polite and mature. My personal experience has always been to get the charge reduced to something which does not have points.

Why not just use Google maps? It shows your speed and won't be a target for thieves to break the window.

I fully admit to speeding, just not 72. Thought I was going 65, which I what I told the officer. I have no problem with the points/fine for 65mph.

Typically if you go in to court you can speak with the whatever the shit they call them, when they call your name and make a ‘deal.’

Last time I had one they offered me 3 different options. I took the pay more and not do defensive driving, goes off my record in 6mo if I don’t get another ticket.

What's this point system everyone is talking about? Living in Kansas does have its advantages. No point system in Kansas, and they do not record/report speeding tickets from other states. So when I get caught speeding, I make sure I'm in another state. :)

The worst thing about traveling at a velocity well above what the signs say you should be traveling at is getting caught... did you not see the cop that clocked you, they tend to hide in plain sight.

I've got the radar detector below, but most GPS's will track your speed too. If you can find a cheapo hole in the wall mechanic, see if he will ride along with you for a few minutes to see your speedo and your actual speed and type something up for the courts. for $50 or $100. It's easy money for them.

    https://www.amazon.com/Uniden-Range...1591019050&sprefix=uniden+rad,aps,216&sr=8-10

On the upside; with Covid going on, most court systems are putting things in place to let folks get through their tickets without coming to court. I had a ticket for doing 75 in a 45. I called to see about driving school and they weren't offering those at the moment, but had a community service program where I just had to buy $50 in canned good for the Juvenile detention facility and pay court cost and I got out with zero points on my license.

Another thing that works if you don't want the points is an attorney. I've hit up several attorneys and told them that I would be willing to pay a higher ticket if I could keep from having points on my license. It costs more for the ticket and a couple hundred more for the attorney, but it's never failed me. I get a ticket or three a year and I haven't had points on my license in 10 years.

Like others have said, Get the Hypertech Speedo Calibrator. It’s also useful for pulling codes off the truck if it ever throws one.

Depends on the situation. I was going 57 in a 35 once, and my excuse was very simple:

    1. Literally had just gotten to the area 3 days before (reported to the USS Enterprise).
    2. After getting pulled over, I found the speed limit sign. It was 2/3 obscured by a huge bush...I honestly thought it said 55. (So did the judge, as he dismissed my case and ordered the bush cut down the very next day.)

All that being said, I'd agree; rarely do I get pulled over, but if I knew I was going over, I'll flat out tell the cop "Y'know, I have no good excuse; I was in a hurry, but that's my fault." And the funny thing is honesty will usually get you a reduced fine anyways. :)

I run smaller tires so my speedo shows a higher speed than actual, it's a built in cushion.
