So, if the light does not illuminate, and the pressure gauge doesn't work, that means probably a bad wire? or bulb and sending unit or all three?

Yep, probably an electrical fault. I'm sure that there's a way to manually check the oil pressure, but you might need to ask a shop to do that for you to save you from having to purchase the tools yourself for a one time use. I'm not sure if the oil pressure information is available via the OBDII port and a dongle or one of the Scangauge devices that I've read that some use. That could be an option as well.

I am pretty sure engine oil pressure not available on the OBDII port. I've looked at using actual oil pressure values to "calibrate" my gauge, and I believe I found it not available. Since real-life oil pressure varies from engine to engine, the OEMs decision to leave it off may have been a deliberate attempt to minimize spurious warranty complaints.

@Gordon Better get it checked out quickly. The light and the gauge provide redundancy. If they're BOTH out, it might be coincidence, but it would worry the **** out of me.

If the light comes on before you start it then it's good. Attached is how to test the sender with a multimeter. If you have the gauge though I don't believe there is a separate light.

Whoa...You are RIGHT for my 2017! At least not a dedicated light.

So that was my question, I have the gauge which doesn't work, but also see no warning light when i turn the key before starting. My manual does not specifically mention the light. I assumed no light. The engine sounds like new, so I am not too worried about it not getting oil. But still, I would like to get it working.

FesterW. thanks for sending along the procedure.

Sometimes you can if there is a provision for an idiot lamp by shining a flashlight onto the cluster. True that it won't mean that there's a lamp there though. I had a first generation Tacoma that had the provision for a low fuel light, but didn't actually have the pathways on the circuit board in the cluster.

You may simply have an open circuit (broken/damaged wire) from the sender.

Looks like if you have tach you get a gauge and no light. This is from the 00-03 Toyota service manual.

Sorry about the weird crop, best I could do from my phone.

Hey guys, I just got an 02 and noticed the pressure was not moving at all. At idle or when driving. I replaced the gauge with an AC Delco and when I turn the key to ON position the pressure goes up to almost High, then when I turn on the truck it slowly drops to Low. When i start to drive it stays on low and doesn’t move at all. Any advice?
I know the switch is good since this one actually moves the gauge on dash but don’t know why it drops and stays on low. Thanks

Chiming in on this older thread. I noticed my 2002 oil pressure was at the 1/4 mark while idling today. I was a little concerned. I checked the oil and it's fresh and at the correct level. Looking thru some threads it appears correct.

It's a bit annoying that these gauges don't have a visual "ok level" indication. Some have a redline area, which I suppose thru a comparison one is okay if there's no red area... Would be a thoughful touch if there were green and red areas...

I run slightly thicker oil. I’m in Texas, and it’s hot as hell here. I prefer a oil
    pressure indicating higher than flatline.

I also bought an AC Delco replacement. It cost me $25 CAD, and as it turns out, you get exactly what you pay for. Mine behaves exactly the same as yours.

I got a quote for the genuine Toyota oil pressure switch from my local dealer and it was $138 CAD. I wound up finding a genuine Toyota switch online for $90.

Yeah. I watch a little bit of that guy last year. He is an informative Jolly Dude. Best vid he did was when he (jokingly) captured some oil in a Sauerkraut jar.

The issue you have is most likely a faulty oil pressure sending unit and/or the connection to it. If you want peace of mind in knowing that the oil pressure is within spec hook a mechanical gauge up in place of the sending unit and take the reading from there, this will give you the true oil pressure reading.

Correct me if wrong but is this on your new to you 2003 you've mentioned in a few recent threads ?
If so, I would recommend inputting your year, model and trim on your Personal Details Vehicle One-Line Description: given your screen name implies 2001 Tundra !

Personal Details | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com)

The description of your 2003 not passing "middle line" might not be an issue. What reading do you see after engine is warm, in Park, idling ?

That is very much an issue but if you indeed no longer have the 2001 it's mute ?
