Had a 4 day weekend this last weekend which finally gave me time to do a bit of paint correction / protection... Washed her first thing Friday AM then had to work on the kitchen floor... :goingcrazy: Started the rest of the process Saturday AM

    Meguires Deep Crystal car wash
Meguires clay bar with Quick Detailer for lube (2 bars)
Griots G6 (I think) with orange pads
    Griots correcting cream
    Griots One Step sealant
    Griots 3-1 ceramic spray

So short back story.. Bought the truck, got sucked into their "sealant/ceramic coating package" and have been disappointed with it since. Took it back to have them fix things with shit results and realized I'm better off doing it myself down the road. And here we are 8 months later...

The clay bar pulled a bunch of crap out, made it feel like butter once done! Paint correction went good for my only 2nd time with the orbital, at least I think... Haven't been able to get it in the correct lighting to look for swirls, but so far so good... Followed that with the One Step and called it a day. Both these are great products IMO, although I don't have the experience with many others. But they both go on and come off with ease.

Woke up Sunday in excitement to try the 3-1 ceramic spray. Now, I know I probably should have waited longer, but time is an essence for me lately so I went at it with the spray. It does smell good though!

The hood and roof worked out pretty good, got to the drivers door and things started getting a bit more difficult. The 3-1 spray was getting harder and harder to come off but I was still able to get good results after tuning my wipe-on / wipe-off technique... Got the truck done in a few more hours.

    Here is the outcome:

    Tundra1.jpg Tundra2.jpg

    Now my question(s):

    - I know I should have waited, probably another day, to put on the 3-1 spray. Could the one step not curing enough be the culprit for the troubles with the 3-1 spray?

    - What are others peoples experiences with the application of this spray?

    - Do people use the 3-1 spray as a drying aid?

    - I have the Griots Poly wax in my stash as well, would that go on before or after the 3-1 spray? Or is the spray good enough?

Like I said, haven't had the right sunlight to look for swirls and such, I was able to notice the obvious before the paint correction, so I am hoping I was able to rid most, if not all of it... But once I was done with the final wipe down, I'm happy. Now its dirty again from a light rain we had Monday afternoon and pollen :frusty::frusty:

First things first....the truck looks great. God bless you for choosing a black truck. Your life is no longer your own.

I guess there's a possibility that the sealant not curing could have explained the difficulty you had removing the 3 in 1. I would have expected it to have cured overnight, but there are a lot of factors that can affect cure time. You do not need either the sealant or the Poly Wax if you're using the 3 in 1 Ceramic (the green stuff). I think you'll find that, with proper application, that the 3 in 1 will protect your vehicle just fine. All you need is sunlight to find swirls, especially on a black truck. I do not believe the 3 in 1 is designed as a drying aid. If you want to stay within product lines, Griots Spray Wax works very well as a drying aid and will boost the carnuba component of the 3 in 1.

Thank you, sir  I'm a huge fan of black vehicles... Back in my earlier years I always told myself I'd never own a black vehicle due to the upkeep, but this is my second black rig and it's not as bad as I thought. Although, the fact it gets dirty before I can finish drying it sucks...

Thanks for the clarification, I had thought I wouldn't need the one step before the 3-1, but it was a "better safe than sorry" situation... Lesson learned  I will stick with the 3-1 from now on and get more practice with that, I really do think it will be what I've been looking for... Good advice on the drying aid, been up and down with their Spray Wax, but I think I'll just bite the bullet. Better to have it and not need it, right? :spending:

Looks great! As for the difficulty with 3 in 1, what time did you start? Perhaps the vehicle was cooler when you were doing the roof and hood? I did my applications in early February, and had no issues. Over this past weekend though, I was just demonstrating it on a couple of panels on my father in law’s Sequoia.
It was early evening, and I was having more difficulty with streaking. Had to do very small sections at a time to prevent it. It was a good bit warmer than it was in February, and the heat seems to make it a lot harder to work with. Very few products can be applied when it’s hotter, and it really seemed to affect Griots 3 in 1 more than most. I actually had to do a fender in three sections to avoid the streaking. Any overspray dried very quickly.

Great product, and I like it a hell of a lot, but it seems that you really need mild temperatures to attempt it. The Sequoia is MGM, and I bet it’s even more unforgiving on black paint. It just heats up way too fast. Best practice would be to do it in a garage, very early in the morning, or late evening. Washing it right before to cool down the paint would be a big help also.

I don’t think the one step curing would affect it at all, but I could be wrong. I’m betting the heat was the issue.

Looks great. All people envision their truck like yours when they choose black.

Unfortunately for me, my oak trees are making a mess out of mine. :(

Thanks for the kind words! You might be right about the temps... I did start about 10AM and it did get fairly warm that day... I was in the shade but the warmth was still there... I'll keep that in mind next time! The smaller sections helped too, but then it took FOR-EVER! lol

Thank you! Trees are a PITA... Lucky enough to not have to park directly under one, but the pollen... SO MUCH POLLEN.

    Thank you!!

I will admit, it is hard to keep clean... I have to keep telling myself it's not gonna stay clean for more than a day! lol - I dont wash it as often as I'd like, only a couple times a month during sunny season.
