Sorry, not gonna read through all of the pages, so this may already have been discussed: but my current favorite is Contradiction by Smooth Ambler. Definitely recommend! Love this blended bourbon.

Balcones is never one to disappoint. Just had their Rye and am very happy with it! The oaky/tobacco finish is right up my alley. Their Texas Pot Still is also one of my favorites. And very reasonably priced.

Never been a whiskey drinker, but got a bottle from a coworker on my birthday. My assumption is just drink it on the rocks right? Excuse the ignorance...

I've been drinking whiskey for years. Most of the time I drink it neat. If day drinking and it's hot out I'll add ice. And honestly some stuff is better or exhibits different flavors when ice/water is added. When I first started I would drink it on the rocks and sometimes added water to mellow out some of the high proof stuff. Bottom line: drink it how you like it. After your pallet adjusts, you may find that you are adding less and less water and or ice.

That's good stuff. On the rocks, neat, or if you mix soda try Mt. Dew with it. Vanilla Coke is a good one as well.

I had unopened scotch that I lost/ forgot about for about 4 years and it ended up separating and becoming undrinkable. However, it was in small bottles from a taster pack so that could have been the problem.

Exactly this. Just drink it how ya like it. Try it neat, then a couple drops of water, then some ice...how ever you enjoy it is the right way.

After opening a bottle normally oxidation will occur and can change the flavor profile. Most figure around 4 to 6 months as long as kept out of direct light and no massive temperature swings before a change in flavor can be noticed.

Some fare better than others but I normally won't open anything unless its going to get consumed within a month or two.

How does Flaviar work? The website doesn’t have much info. I see that you get one free bottle and a tasting box once per quarter. Do they also have bottles for sale? If so, how are the prices?

Sure. Wife got me the subscription for Christmas. I have had 2 samplers and 2 bottle. The samplers are fun because I get to try 3 different whiskeys I may not otherwise want to pay for a whole bottle of. They give great tasting notes with each sample and have tasting notes on the website. Your $100 gives you a sampler and a $40 credit per quarter or whatever the subscription. They're super fast at shipping and very helpful if you need it. For a geek like me, it's been a great experience.
