So I painted my grill surround a few years back and it had a little orange peel but wasnt bad and now the paint is cracking. It was painted in the summer and really hot out, so I contribute it to the paint starting to dry before it hit. I am looking to redo it next week hopefully and I would like to get a better prep job. What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

Curious myself. I'm debating whether to paint or vinyl wrap my surround, bulge and bumper caps

I would scuff it and use adhesion promoter

You could get a new unpainted aftermarket grill from rock auto pretty cheap and paint it with very little prep work.
That's what I did when my chrome grille started to crack.
