The Woman's car seems to have developed a metallic rattle when it's betwen 1800 - 2000rpm. It almost sounds like a loose heat shield or something. I'm not able to get under the car for a little while, but does anyone have any ideas what else it could be if I don't find anything loose?

Yeah. Mainly when slowing down at a stop light or crawling forward in a drive thru.

Kinda of sounds like a rusted heat shield...like you said. I had a Honda with very similar symptoms that had a rotted shield.

Had that same noise with my work vehicle. Was a damn tumble week stuck up next to the heat shield.

Good stuff, thanks guys. I've gotta get my hands on a set of ramps to get the car in the air. Reason #73 why cars suck: you can never easily access the underside.

God I hope not. It sounds more central, either under the dash or right under the seating.

That's what I'm hoping. The car is a 2013, but only has about 42,000 miles on it.

Yeah. Our city is roughly 10 miles east-west, about 7 miles north-south. I can get almost anywhere in under 15 minutes. LOL. We bought the car with around 26,000 miles on it 2 years ago. Not sure what the previous owner did, but we pretty much just use it to run errands and make a 650 mile round trip to the big city a couple times a year for the most part.

Would you believe I paid $15K Canuckistani Pesos for each vehicle? The Tundra 3.5 years ago, the Corolla 2 years ago. :D

Quick update to this. I got the car jacked up today and I think I fixed the issue. The thin sheet metal heat shield that is above the exhaust appears to have been the culprit. I'm guessing a rock kicked up and bent the shield just enough that when the hanging exhaust vibrated, it contacted the heat shield causing the rattle. I bent the heat shield farther out away from the exhaust and the noise has disappeared.
