finished this replica crusaders dagger this week. Leaf spring......
    Well, what happened is..
I built a broadfork and I forgot to weld on one of the tines! So there i was, looking at a 18” long pointy piece of spring steel. What was I to do?
So, yeah, in a time when everyone sends texts and emails, I have a big letter opener!

That definitely depends on all the things already mentioned. Also, custom made vs production. I sell my customs starting at $650 and they go up from there depending on materials.

How does that work? Do you have a shop with mills, lathes, drill presses and employees? Or do you contract out the design for a percentage of sales?

Both. I have a mill and 2HP 2x72 belt grinder in my garage. I cut out the pieces on a metal cutting bandsaw. I buy all the screws and pivots. I also design for companies to produce and I get a royalty.

No, I don’t think I’m good enough. What I end up with is done right and very carefully, but it takes me days to do it.
About the show, there’s some stuff that is a little deceptive in how it is presented. For example, when I was heat treating the Damascus blade, 3 thermal cycles, a 10 minute normalize, the oil quench, tempering in the oven (2 times for an hour and 1 time for 2 hours) total elapsed time was about 5 hours just for the heat treating. On the show they occasionally show some thermal cycling, but usually just the oil quench.

Just finished this butcher knife for my neighbor. 7CA75A19-E851-4CB2-AF0E-5987E2481B83.jpg16CB2A11-8EEA-443A-8B50-0112F40ADD8D.jpg I had him draw a pattern on a piece of cardboard. Very utilitarian. Had to resist the urge to do artsy stuff.
