I am more then likely going to order the G9 today. My primary use for it is going to be to wax the cars. I will probably do some paint correction but I have 4 vehicles to take care of and cutting the wax time down is enough benefit for me to buy it. I would love to have perfect paint. I can accept that it is very hard to keep up with when they are stored outside and driven regularly. I do have a Black vette that is garage kept. That once I practice enough will benefit from it. My questions are. Is the G9 going to save me time waxing? What pads should I go with the red ones? I am also interested in glass treatment with it.

If the G9 is orbital go for it. Its cheaper than the Torq model. The Torque has worked well for me but other than the controls there doesn't look to be much difference.

Depending on the Torq model, there may be a significant difference.....that being power and orbits per minute. Probably the biggest difference is in the warranty.....Griots is lifetime.

You will not be disappointed with the G9.....to me, it's the best entry level DA on the market. I'm mostly a sealant person now, but I do believe the DA saves time applying product. The other advantage is that it will give a thinner, more even coat than if you apply by hand. The red pads are fine, as are the grey ones. On your daily drivers, you can do some light correction with AIO (All in one) type products, like 3D Speed, Meguiars D166 and Blackfire AIO. If you're staying with Griots pads, those would be applied with their yellow polishing pads. They also leave behind a layer of protection.

Ok thank you I ordered the kit they have with the compound and yellow pad and a few micro fiber clothes. I’m sure I will try a few more products but I have been using some of the CG products some I don’t like but some are good. The wash and wax I like and the interior detailer I like. The quick detailer is not bad.The griots products I have used seem to be better to me. The heavy duty wheel cleaner is great. I got 5 or 6 other griots products to try out.

side topic but what tire shine do you guys like. I don’t like the hardcore wet look but I do want a little shine. I have been using the CG tire shine and it’s not bad. I’m sure there is better though.

CG is like any of these companies.....some stuff is good, some not so good. They just have a tendency to over-hype their stuff. I never liked aerosols, until I tried Griots Black Satin. To avoid overspray, I spray it onto an applicator and then apply to the tire. It starts a little shiny, but sits down nicely and lasts several weeks.

If you really get into detailing and are going to buy a lot of pads, get a 5” backing plate so you can use 5.5” pads which are a lot cheaper.

Also, sign up for Detailed Image’s newsletter. They have sales practically everyday on detailing products. Like someone else said, Chemical Guys stuff can be hit or miss so you may just want to take a look at Carpro products and start building your collection of product with them.

I see you’ve already ordered the G9. You won’t be disappointed. It does cut down on time waxing, but the bigger benefit is reducing shoulder fatigue. Like @briarpatch said, it also applies it more evenly. I use the Griots red pads for applying wax or sealant.

I also use Griots glass pads for heavy glass cleaning. Griots also has glass clay for stubborn spots. I haven’t used it yet, but @Pudge was really impressed with Carpro Ceriglass. I have that, and some Carpro Flyby glass coating I’m hoping to use this weekend. I’ve been using Jescar Powerlock on my windows, and it works very well.

On tire shine, which CG one are you using? If it’s Tire Kicker, that’s a pretty good product. Doesn’t last very long, but I do like it. If you want the similar look, but more durability, try Gyeon Tire Express. If you want even more durability, and don’t mind waiting a little longer and spending a little more, Waxaddict Tyre Feeder is the best I know of short of a coating.

It is tire kicker and is a great product and you are exactly right doesn’t last that long. I will look at the others you mentioned.

Gyeon Tire Express and Waxaddict Tyre Feeder leave the same appearance, and last considerably longer.
The Gyeon can be bought on Amazon, and the Waxaddict has to be ordered directly from the manufacturer in the UK.

I've used Ceriglass with the Car Pro Glass pads. The product works very well, as I've had some serious water spots on my windows.

Good point....the 5.5 are considerably less expensive than the 6.5....that being said, the suggestion of going to the smaller backing plate is a good one for another reason...it will help with maintaining pad rotation, as the G9 is a free spinning DA and not forced rotation like the Flex.

I just ordered a G9 myself. I'm pretty excited to use it! My trucks's paint is in pretty good shape, but my car needs some work.

I have 3 Lake country orange and 3 black but some have recommended as much as 6 of each color. Detailed image is doing a 20% sale right now so it might be a good time to stock up. Get a lake country 5” backing plate and some pads.

To be safe.....you could buy the 5" backing plate from Griots....zero worries on the fitment there. From there, any 5.5" pads will work.

The Lake Country backing plate will fit fine as will the Griots. Going with 5.5” pads will give you a bit more control over what you are doing.

Meh, I don’t think it saves you much time. If all you’re doing is waxing, a buffer isn’t necessary.

Used my G9 along with Griots glass pads and Carpro Ceriglass to clean my shower doors yesterday. Used some Griots glass clay on some tougher spots.
Followed up with some Hydro2 on the glass. Worked beautifully!

I got the G9 sat and was able to use it on Monday. I tried it out on my wife’s daily driver 15 highlander with its share of chips and bug stains etc. it worked great I used the orange pad and griots 3-1 that came with the kit. I’m excited to learn more about using it and trying some different products to find a good setup for me.

Now it's time to invest in the 5" conversion kit with the smaller backing plate, and stocking up on pads. Autogeek has 6-packs of pads that you can mix and match them, at a very good savings as opposed to buying them separately.

The Buff n Shine Urofiber pads are very good also. You’ll need something lighter for polishing though.

Thanks I bought an additional orange pad and two red pads from them. I figured I would start with those and see what additional stuff I need.
