Mystery clunk when turning

    I have this really annoying clunking/pop problem when turning at lower speeds. Happens when turning sharply. I will turn left and it will pop, then it wont do it again till i turn right tightly. Or if I'm offroad, or turning into an uneven driveway or parking lot that causes my truck to shift side to side, it will clunk/pop numerous times.if im going a low speed i can consistently recreate the noise by swaying the truck left and right, and it seems like the noise goes from left to right too. I can feel it by my feet sometimes too. It is directly related to the body shifting. It is very very annoying. My mechanic already checked the balljoints, and everything else TWICE and says he cant figure out where its coming from. Everything is tight. A lot of other 1st gen owners seem to have this problem. Maybe they screwed up on the frame replacement?. I think it might be the leaf springs possibly. Any ideas? Not a huge problem but just really annoying now.

    Have you checked the tie rods? Both inner and outer for both sides?

    Try disconnecting your sway bar end links from the front - its free - to eliminate all that jazz to diagnose.

    Steering rack bushings and end link bushings (sway bar) are common issues and known to cause this.

    Aww Puck! I just noticed you mentioned you think its the rear leafs. Is the noise coming from front or rear?

    @noahrexion it sounds like its coming from the rear but it feels like its from the front!. My mechanic checked everything on a lift and he drove it to see if he could identify the sound. Nothin. Ill just do it myself and check it once illinois weather gets nice n warm

    I would agree with tie rod ends or something steering related. Something is binding up, like a lack of grease on an old worn out part.

    I’ve had this problem for 3-4 years. Only happens on slow sharp turns going up an incline or driveway apron.

    Narrowed it down to the rear leafs. My leaf were splayed and the silencer pads worn or missing. The bushings in the leaf eyes may be worn, as well, but can’t see them without removal.

    I installed some ghetto silencer pads using composite shims forced between the leaf tips. The sound reduced and changed so I knew I was on to the problem source. I also sprayed loads of PB penetrator on the leafs and that changed the sound and almost eliminated it. Lo, I need new leafs but its not priority and the sound is barely there at so minimal times its not worth tackling at this time.

    Figured it out, its my leaf springs, right under the shackle where the two main leaf springs are touching. The shackles toward the front of the car
