    The baffle is nothing more than a piece to mount the subs in to be placed and secured to the compartment. That is exactly what I did on mine. Once you pull the carpet out of that compartment you will see that they are not sealed, so you will have to seal it if you go that route. I used Noico sound deadener to seal up the rear driver side compartment for 2 8" subs.

    I would go with the baffle and sealing up the compartment over the box. By having a full box in there you are taking away a lot of airspace in an already small compartment. By using the baffle and sealing the compartment yourself you maximize the air space for your subs. You also lose an inch of mounting depth with the box (3.5" vs 4.5"). You will most likely have to do a shallow mount sub regardless.

    I was going for the same clean thump as you want, and I am very happy with the 2 8's I have back there.
