What motor mounts are the best for our trucks?

    2001 4.7 SR5 4x4 w/ 330k miles

I've heard that the OEM mounts aren't that great and tried searching around for good options but can't seem to find any...

Anyone ever gets suspicious because the mounts are priced too cheap?? LOL

What is a good upgrade, I'm doing timing belt, water pump, a/c compressor, and headers so might as well do the mounts at the same time.

    Thanks!

OEM if you want smooth. if your beating the hell out of the truck theres a member on tacomaworld and here that makes beefy mounts for them. but you will feel more vibrations

ive seen how well aftermarkets OE style ones hold up on other cars/trucks. wouldnt ever waste my money on them

So you recommend just sticking with OEM?
Not doing anything crazy just trying to keep my truck in good running condition.

I would advise it. the originals have lasted over 300k?

Mine are perfectly fine, and my truck was rolled over at 70 MPH

Not sure if the ones on my truck are the originals or even the brand, the truck was tuned up a few years ago when it was at around 200k.

    Thanks for your input!

Are you feeling anything odd that makes you think your mounts are trashed?

No just doing JBA headers anyway and the truck has 330k so might as well

Then go Toyota. Good motor mounts will last just about forever unless you have a misfire or some circumstance causing premature wear. No reason to risk buying cheap when Toyota mounts are pretty good.

You should see the mounts on my 4runner engine. the truck hit a wall doing 50, rolled and the engine was wedged against the firewall. The mounts bent up, but the rubber didnt show any signs of failing. its safe to say theyre plenty strong for most people

and those mounts had 250k on them

The mounts on these trucks seem plenty durable. On my Honda (with the misfire) there are 4 mounts and the motor rocks like hell. On my GTI theres a motor mount and 2 trans mounts, they're pretty beat from aggressive driving and 18psi antics.

Meanwhile my Tundra with 230k mounts are fine.

Gotcha, I'll take a bunch of pictures when I do the installation within the next few weeks.

My mounts aren't bad though just changing them since I'll be in the motor anyway.
I'm also doing the full suspension and brakes.

At 330k I'm just being extra cautious before anything breaks.
I hope to get to the million-mile club in a decade or more.

We have motor mount issues with our SHOs too. Front one goes to shit and causes the motor to rock back and forth and makes it hard to shift. Of course they're obsolete so we send em to a guy. The ones I have now are impossible to break and transmit a lot of NVH into the car. Like I care. Because racecar!

On that note, I doubt your mounts are bad. But you can always replace them once you get them out for your header install.

Thanks for the education on this. Thinking on going with OEM when Toyota swaps my frame, but the plan for the RCLB is a tow rig.

Unsure of how much extra "power" I'd get with less flex on the solid mounts. Or if it'd even be necessary.

Re: extra power. I'm assuming you're referring to the comment I made on your build page in reference to that. It's hard to tell. My only frame of reference is on my 4.0l Jeep when I went to Brown Dog poly mounts. The "extra" power you get is just due to there not being any loss like you would get from rubber mounts. It's not really extra it's just that there is no flex from rotating mass. Solid mounts transfer the available power better. Make sense?

Yes, your message is what I was referring to.

That makes perfect sense. The flex absorbs a slight amount of energy from the motor. Eliminate the flex and the energy that would have flexed a rubber bushing would go to the wheels (eventually.) No "extra power" just less lost energy.

Just trying to narrow all the details out before I get called, and toyota says "Hey, bring your truck this coming monday."

Feeling a little bit of a time crunch. Nards in a vise type deal. Lol

Just a thought, are you positive you really need new ones? Only reason I ask is because since replacing my front bumper, I can easily see the front body mounts and they honestly look new. Whoever made them didn't skimp on quality. Worst case, email McGeorge and they will give you the part numbers. I've done that recently on parts I couldn't find.

No, I'm not positive that I need new ones at all. I just know that this will be my only time to change them ever.... plus who knows what kind of redneckery went on before I found my truck.

The PM still has my AM brain fried so I'll be emailing them. Must be time for a drain and fill on the main brain juice.
