Anything is possible, you just have to be cautious about the airbag clock spring. Should be a straight swap, you may have to verify the airbag though.

I felt the same about my 2011 wheel. What don’t you like about it?

Here are the ideas I found:

Most expensive route - a new Toyota OEM wheel that’s leather wrapped or wood/leather combo.

eBay a used wheel you like from the 2nd gen.

ebay a new aftermarket wheel for the 2nd gen. There are a handful out there from one brand and they appear to offer different colors/ combinations of wood and leather.

3rd gen/Tacoma wheel. This option I’m not sure of because of the different shape of the airbag. No idea if that matters. Also, not sure of any compatibility issues with the control buttons (if you don’t have steering wheel audio now I guess it doesn’t matter).

what I’m doing: I sent my wheel to a place in Texas to get it leather wrapped. It’s not super cheap but I couldn’t find the matching color I needed for my truck’s airbag on eBay. I have the tan cloth seats with brown dash and airbag, etc.

I will have a black leather and brown wood OEM wheel from limited or platinum trim I’ll be selling once I get my leather one back from the wrap place in Texas. It is used with some wear but looks pretty good. I’m using it in the interim.

good luck with your wheel search.

Yeah, I figured, but I haven't seen anyone do it and was wondering if there is something that prevents the swap.

    I don't like the overall shape, and I don't mean that it's round ;).

Might be possible. The Landcruiser 200 wheel is the same as the 2nd gen tundra just the airbag cover and controls look different, the outer wheel is the same so it might be more of a direct swap? I bought a leather wrapped cover from Amazon, haven't installed yet but from all the pictures I've seen they look great.

I think the DIY wraps look awesome. I just didn’t have the patience to do it so I sent mine out. The good custom shops for wheels can make all sorts of mods too. Thumb grips, etc.

That steering wheel is nice, but looks like it’s for a 2014-20 even though it says 2009-20

It's a 2014-2020 shape, so you would need a new airbag and other parts. You're looking at about $1600.00 for that set-up.

I dont understand how there is not more people looking into this. I personally have a 2013 sequoia and I am thinking the best bet would be to go with a 2014 sequoia wheel, or I should say controls and harness. Either way once I have the wheel in and working I would want to get the wheel itself rewrapped. I just more so want to make sure the spline is the same and the connectors are the same, even if a few pins need to be moved.

Swapping a steering wheel isn't a small investment. You're looking at approx $300 - $500 for a newer model steering wheel and airbag with no guarantee it would work without a good amount of research. I don't know many that would take the time or risk. That being said forum member Jeff_5_7 did a full interior swap which led to me wanting to do a partial swap (instrument cluster and steering wheel only). Check it out:

    I bought a used 2018+ Wheel for $120
Then a good steering wheel airbag for $270.
    Total Cost = $390

The swap can be done in less than an hour, however most people dont like the idea of having buttons on the steering wheel that do not work. I spent alot of time adding wiring so my steering wheel controls would work.

Keep in mind the 2014-2017 Wheel and the 2018+ Wheel are slightly different when it comes to buttons on the steering wheel. The 2018+ has more controls for the cluster display and safety systems.

Here is a 2018 Wheel in my 2007 Truck. It is bolted to the 2007 steering column
