Extending running boards to back fender

'16 Double cab

I have the Toyota running boards installed when I purchased the car.

the boards extend to back door and there is a big gap to rear fenders.

My extended cab Tacoma running boards (also from Toyota) extend all the way to rear fenders and there is no gap.

I like the factory running boards. They are black cast aluminum and I don't want to replace them.
if they were extended to rear fenders I could access the bed easier.

Wondering if anyone else has covered that gap with an extension piece?

 

The fender right in front of the rear wheel drops at an angle that makes it unlikely. Many rock sliders have the same issue because of the body lines of the rear fender. Without replacing the running boards with something that was purpose built to run the full length you are going to have a hard time finding a suitable anchor point to provide support to an add on piece.

 

I don't know what the boards you have look like, but I found these through some google-fu and they run the full length. They have to stick out a bit to do it though.

I paid $770 for Toyota running boards installed. They added it to my 5 years financing. They look very nice and have a very snug fit. I just checked and they cost $845 now.

I see what you mean about the Amazon boards since they go all the way, they stick out a little bit they are aluminium and same as Toyota.

Thanks for the link. For $290 I may consider them. Sticking out a bit is not a major problem.

 

If you're happy, you didn't pay too much. There were some mixed reviews on those APS running boards from what I saw, so just do your research and plan it out. Best of luck.
