Just an update for you all interested in fitness stuff.

I’ve had the bike for over two weeks now. In the past I’d ride in the rode in the spring summer and fall. Endurance rider for the most part, I’m not fast, but love to put in the mileage so I can eat drink whatever i want.I moved to northern Idaho a couple years ago and that shortened my cycling window.

the peloton is a good bike. adjustability is very good, stability is awesome screen size is great. Instructors are very very good. It is nice to have someone push you. I’m still in the getting back into riding shape and I anticipate another week or so until I can hang with the harder rides. I really enjoy the fact I can get in this thing at any time and find a class that interests me. I started with 30 min rides and have progressed to daily 45 min rides towards 60 min rides.

at this point I feel great about the purchase, it is hard to get outside in the snow, or just get on an inferior bike at the gym. I have definitely gotten into better shape in the last two weeks, no doubt.

I’m going to continue to ride in the afternoon and hit the weights in the mornings. I guess we can get into shape with strong motivation with pretty much any type of excercise, but this bike sure makes it easy. No excuses now.
After two+ weeks, I highly recommend! If there were any other peloton riders out there, send me a note and we can ride together.

    Ken

Warning... long post. Thanks for posting this update. I found it pretty helpful. Do you think you'll be able to lose some good weight if you keep going with the Peloton? Not sure how much you wanted to lose but it sounds like you think that's possible. I need to drop 10-15 lbs since having our 2nd kid, i'm not getting to the gym like when i just had the 1 kid.

My wife has been asking me for the Peloton for like 2 months and i've been resistant because it's so darned expensive. but, she's got a good point, we both work, have 2 kids under 3 yr old and don't have time to leave the house for much of anything and i don't see that changing for quite some time. yes, it's our own fault, we've both gained weight over the last three years and we want to change that.

I'm really torn between supporting what she wants and being concerned that the bike does not get used like it should but i guess that's the part we control. i'm seeing people of all types on IG getting crazy results from doing the workouts and like you said, most people say it's pretty fun. I tried to mention some of the other options like here in this thread but she's really zero'd in on Peloton, i think mostly b/c of the marketing, IG and monthly classes.

I'm thinking i should buy the Peloton for her for Mother's Day but i know they're running 2-3 weeks out on delivery. We're in metro Atlanta area. My wife is really jacked about having one and i'm on the fence. She's been doing Orange Theory but said she'll cancel that membership (appx $100/mo) to have access to the bike classes. I was doing Crossfit ($135/mo) but i dropped that last year.

    O.K. I'll update too.

Since my post ^^^ she has ridden it..........you ready?.........sure?.............she has ridden it 0 times since my post. It just sits in the living room. I'm feeling pretty gosh darn uptown: $1,000 per ride. :bananadead:

I have two kids at home and when they are at home, there is no way I can workout. They are too attached and want to play, they are 2 and 4. If anything, they want to climb up on my bike and play around with it. Not sure how your kids are, but something to think about. I only get my workout done when they are napping at the same time or if I'm not at home. I pay for a gym membership near work and get a quick workout in during lunch hour.

My kids are the same way. Both me and my wife work from home, even before the Rona, so she's telling me before kids get up, maybe lunch and after kids go to bed in terms of when we would use.

Good questions. I won’t sugar coat anything and after several months now I consider the honeymoon phase over with. Regarding weight loss, yes dropping the pounds is not a problem as long as your eating smartly. I’m still dropping the weight ive wanted to and the bike has made it easier. I also walk a lot on days I don’t ride. But eating is the most important part, but you know that already.

You can purchase one bike have one membership and both of you can have you own schedule and stats separately. No additional fees. One of the things people don’t know is you can mirror the bikes monitor to a large tv as well. This is good if you want to take the other included classes from yoga to basic training, stretching, etc. based on the money you were/are spending on gyms you could save some with the bike. I still belong to a gym for the weights, but up here a great gym is only about $300 for a year, lol.

if you decide to buy, get The shoes for both of you, for good form you need them. I don’t use the weights, but your wife might like them. To be honest the arm workouts on the bike are kind of lame, I usually just right through that part of the workout and burn more calories, lol. Heart rate monitor is good for accurate calorie burning and to follow how good of shape you are getting into. The mat is expensive, I bought one from a guy on Craig’s list that is better, it’s a cycle ops mat, you can get it on Amazon too.

I’d buy one again knowing what I know now. It’s a quality bike, it’s built well. Classes are professional.
I’ve contacted peloton, I think I have a code I can give you that will save you $100, I’ll post it after they get back to me.

one more thing, if you guys don’t like it, you can sell it for almost the same price you bought it for no problem, during this covid crap people are paying more crazy prices.

Here is the code to save $100. Oh boy their customer service is understaffed right now because if covid, took like an hour for them to pick up the phone, lol.

GRVYYN Is the code, anybody can use it.

It's all about your discipline. If I take a couple days off, it becomes real easy to take a week off and then a month off. Once I get back on track it's pretty easy just to be routine and do it at a set time. Right now since I am off work, I ride when my daughter takes her nap. Then I do weights and I just started one of the Beach Body workouts around 7 when my daughter is winding down, however, she keeps coming downstairs and "working out" with me. But she is having fun and really doesn't get in my way.
My wife was doing real well, she bought a Pelaton treadmill this summer and was using it every night for a while, then around Christmas things got busy and she took a week off and hasn't been back on it yet. She says she is starting back up on Monday but that remains to be seen.
With my bike, you can ride roads and it adjusts for inclines etc. I'm currently riding a program that is climbing in the Swiss Alps. Today was about 40 minutes of 6-7% grade. My legs are shot after a similar workout yesterday along with some squats and lunges.

Yeah, good point about selling the bike in a few months if it doesn't work like my wife hopes it does. I told her to find a used one but it was only $200 less and no warranty so it didn't seem like that was much better than buying new. She's on the FB marketplace and most folks just said to get the new one.

i'll check out that mat too. we're also considering putting this in our garage (we have a small house) so not sure if you need the mat if it's on concrete floor or not?

$300/year for gym.. that's nuts. thanks for all the feedback. i'll def post-up once this thing plays out.

I'm the type of person who if i have to pay for something i use it so i'm hoping my wife has that quality too..ha. But i need to get going again myself so no judgement at all. i hear that beach body workout is hard as hell. you get that on-line or have old dvd's or is that at your local gym or what?

Everyone will have a different experience, but the Peloton I got my wife this last Christmas has changed her life.

That sounds dramatic but it's the truth. She wasn't overweight or anything but she had slowly gotten softer and softer since high school - just like we all do, and she lost a lot of confidence.

She rides at least 4 times per week. She has 80 rides in since mid January when we got back from vacation, and she is a different person. She's more confident, she is more capable, and she is actually liking the way she looks. In the 10 years we've been together (since junior year of high school) she has never been so excited about working out.

Shit, she even helped me shovel 18 TONS of rock into the back yard by hand a couple weeks ago. She was actually extremely helpful.

    Here's my bottom line:

    - It costs about $110/mo with the equipment and the subscription which is only $30 more per month than the gym membership neither of us used.

    - The instructors are fantastic. I was a college athlete and I really thrive with someone pushing/coaching me. I'm not very good at working out when I am in charge of the routine. There are like 30 instructors so you are bound to find someone that can push you. They are professional coaches, not just bikers.

    - The equipment really is top notch, EXCEPT for the heart rate monitors. I would recommend buying yourself a Scosche Rythm+ ASAP.

    - I can't overstate how nice and convenient it is to jump on at any time of day and be home when you're done. Just hop in the shower and go to bed or to work.

    Happy to answer any questions!

Lot of good stuff here. both me and my wife are pretty much where your wife started out. amazing that it's helped so much but frankly, a lot of folks are saying that about their experience with the product.

what about your shoes? where did you buy and what's the best deal? my wife will need the 'inserts', not sure what you call them. and i'll need the shoes and the inserts.

what about the seat rubbing your ass raw. i'm reading that's an issue. are you having the same thing and how do you prevent that from happening? some folks say it's pretty bad.

We bough ours in October. We hit it pretty hard at first, then with the holidays it got put off. We just restarted again. I recommend looking in the programs section and doing the "mastering the Basics" program. it is a six week schedule with 5 workouts a week and 2 rest days. I liked this so much better than randomly picking and choosing. It also helped me learn to get out of the saddle easier and made it more comfortable. I have ridden bikes for around 40 years, road, mountain, and tri. I have tried using trainers but could never get into it. I actually like using this.

I would just using biking shorts (the spandex ones with the crotch pads) they work great.

Also you can use any bike shoe and get the clips cheaper on Amazon or a bike store.

I just bought a package that came with 2 pairs of shoes. I’ve found the Peloton shoes are very functional and comfortable.

As for the seat - we haven’t had any problems. After the first couple of rides you may feel ever so slightly sore, but if you ride even a couple times per week you get completely used to it.

I don’t think my butt has ever been sore the next day from the seat.

Everybody's body geometry is different, but I would honestly say that I think most people complaining about the seat are just kind of soft.

Yeah something like that. I got it on sale for the holidays around Black Friday.

With the 39 month no interest financing it’s about $60/mo. Plus the $40/mo subscription is $100/mo.

Many years ago I got the dvd's for p90x, insanity, T25, and P90X3 from a friend. My wife has a subscription to the beach body app that includes all of those videos along with the rest that they have. I'm currently doing a transform 20 video. It's only 20 minutes, but it will get you sweating pretty good. Then I do my normal weight lifting.

I have bike shorts, but rarely wear them unless I am going for a really long ride. If you haven't ridden in a long time, your ass will be sore for the first week or so, but you quickly adapt to it and it won't bother you anymore. Buy any cycling pedal and shoe, they will all work. You will be amazed at how much difference it makes in your ability to pedal. My spin bike just has toe clips on it right now, I have clipless on my mountain bike and I can tell a huge difference. I keep telling myself I need to buy another set of pedals, just haven't done it yet.

I'm doing the same; using my mtn bike, and just ordered a CycleOps Mag+ trainer, speed sensor and Zwift. Looking forward to seeing how I like it.
