They won't cover it the 2nd time around do they?....thought I read that on an older post.

How do we bypass 'limp mode' if when it happens in middle of driving?.....stop, turn engine off, clear codes, restart engine?

I've not read of anyone claiming to have successfully had them covered a second time. I think that you can get out of limp mode by clearing the codes until the next time they're set only if the issue is that the valves are stuck closed. If they're stuck open, you're.....stuck.

Only way they will cover it a 2nd time is if it happens again within the original 10 year, 150k mile warranty. The 2nd time mine failed I was still under the mileage, but the 10 years had run out on me 3 months before.

Good morning mates. I am tundra 2013 owner with 84000 km and facing the same problem. When I disconnect the battery ,errors messages desepear but after short while driving, starting again the problem with a important loss of power from engine. I leave in Panama (central America).
Does anyone would be able to recommend me someone to fix the problem using bypass? Here in Panama I mean.
Many thanks to all of you .

    Aloha,

I have the same issue but I didn't qualify for the warranty. I passed the mileage portion of it, anyway I replaced all the major parts, AIR PUMP, AIR PUMP CHECK VALVE, DRIVER, AND LINK FUSE (ALL OEM PARTS). The issue I'm having is P0419 code, I cleared the code and rebooted the ECU and I'm still having the same code. I check the voltage on the pump and one of has zero volts and the other has volts. I'm assuming the one with zero volts is the issue but I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do next. I replace all the parts but still having the code. Should I replace the ECU? Will that make a difference?

This happened to me this morning. Limp mode and the engine light came on. I had no idea what was going on. I stopped by O'Reilly's after work. The code is P2447. I'm the 3rd owner of a 2016 with 38k miles. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but after reading through the forum, I'm not too confident that the dealership is going to be willing to cover this under warranty.

Did you ever call the dealer to figure out if the AIP was covered under warranty even though you were outside the 3yr/36k basic warranty coverage?

So after reading through the 5 pages of this post, I didnt seem to find anyone with a 2013+ Tundra that had their AIP replaced under Toyota’s extended warranty on AIP’s in 2011 or earlier Tundras.
My elderly father is having the P2447 code on his 2013 4.6L Tundra. He is the original owner. Hasn’t had any loss of engine power yet. If anyone can provide any guidance on this it would greatly be appreciated. We’re bringing in his truck to the Toyota dealer tomorrow afternoon. Thanks in advance

Yes, I contacted my local dealer and called the Toyota warranty department. Toyota was willing to work with me after I received a diagnostics inspection at the dealership. However, Toyota stated they would only pay for a portion of the repair. Fortunately, during the inspection, they found a hose that was completely bent. once it was repaired, the codes were cleared and I haven't had any further issues. I still have no idea how the hose was bent. Hopefully your dads issue is something very similar.

Thanks for the quick response. This will certainly help us if it in fact turns out to be solely the AIP

So my father’s 2013 4.6L Tundra luckily had the extended Toyota Extra Care warranty (bumper to bumper), so it was all covered. Even a rental car, but since it was just held overnight we didnt get the rental. They replaced both AIP’s. Check engine light if off now. I honestly dont think they would have covered the work if we didnt have that Toyota Extra Care warranty because when the technician diagnosed the problem, the service rep, told us he had to confirm the Extra Care covered the replacement of the AIP’s. After about 30 mins he called back and confirmed it was covered. The total on the invoice was about 1500 USD. Thats the price on warranty work though. For repairs that arent covered by warranty, we usually pay almost double.
What I would recommend anyone going in with this kind of issue, is to first get the free print out of check engine error code from your local Auto Zone. Second, print out the TSB-0160-11. Bring that into your Toyota dealer and arm your service rep AND technician with this info. Be tactful and just tell him/her that this is such a common issue that Toyota even extended this warranty on AIP’s to 2011 Tundras and that you’d like for them to see what they find. If they come back stating you have to bite this bullet, just explain to them that you will attempt going through Toyota’s Warranty Department to see if they can reimburse you for this repair. The hope with approaching all of this from this angle is to hopefully have the rapport you build with the service rep, bleed over to the tech and hopefully together they can submit/word this diagnosis in any way conducive to getting this covered by Toyota. Of course if you’re under your original Extra Care warranty this doesnt apply to you. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread for helping save me fistful of dough. Check engine light came on at 99k so I bought an OBD scanner and then researched the code (P0418). I took the car to the dealership and didn't say anything about having scanned the car. They quoted me $2700 to replace secondary air injection system. When I mentioned the code and the TSB they "did some research" and "discovered" the car was still under warranty. System replaced free of charge in 2 days.

So if the valves stick open or closed your still good to use the bypass kit? So there isn’t a real reason to just throw the bypass on until you have pump failure besides peace of mind? Or is there a issue if the valve gets stuck a certain way?

I suspect that the kit won't do you any good if the valves are stuck open. As this can be detected, you may be stuck in Limp Mode. Stuck closed would be okay. I would suggest speaking to the kit manufacturer to verify.

I believe one of mine was stuck open, and the kit worked for me. It is basically keeping the system from turning on, but it comes with the block off plates as well, so perhaps that's what helps if the banks are open.

Ya, maybe that aspect of it has been sorted out. Full disclosure, I installed mine as a preventative.

It turns out the DAP tune is also a preventative measure as long as it's installed before a failure occurs.

That makes sense your blocking off the whole system anyways so I guess it wouldn’t matter what position they were stuck in.

I have a 2007 Tundra 4.7 Double Cab I gave to my son, and I have replaced both Secondary Injection Valve's on the drivers side and the passenger side. I still have the engine light on and does not go off. The truck runs great with no issues whatsoever, except that darn light, the truck has 271,000 miles on it. with two new air inject valves/pumps. I need to get a "by-pass". Can you indicate where can I buy a "bypass" so I can place on this truck, or what is the correct name of the part so I can order it.

Look on Hewitt Technologies website. I have had one on my 08 4.7L for probably 35k miles now. I had the entire kit/pumps replaced under warranty by Toyota the first time, and they went back out a year later. I would definitely suggest getting a bypass kit as well, even if you fix them. The bypass kit keeps the system from turning on in the first place.

Their customer service is great too, very knowledgeable about their products, and will talk with you quite a bit about this.

They have two systems, one for 2008-2014 Plug & Play SAIS system for $230 and one for Gen II SAIS bypass kit for $400. Which is the one to install?

This one cost 179.00 and is simple to install. No cutting of factory wiring in Texas is allowed. For an old truck is this the best option ?

Yea call and ask. When I did it, seems like mine was about $350, but that’s also been probably two years or so, so things may have changed.
