Dealer said they can't install my TRD pro exhaust because I have coachbuilder +3 shackles?

So, after much anticipation on my part I was finally ready to drop some coin on a TRD pro exhaust. They ordered the part for me, I made the appointment, showed up and spent two hours waiting around. Then, the service guy tells me that they couldn't put the exhaust on because something about the springs being at a weird angle and the exhaust not lining up. He claims they were the beefed up coachbuilder shackles. Anybody else have this problem or is this guy full of it?

I don't have any personal experience with coach shackles yet but based on the number of guys using all three sizes on the pros with that exhaust... the guy is full of shit. But is it possible there is something off with the shackle install? Pretty simple item but weirder things have happened. Any pictures of the shackles to make sure?

Full of it. I don't see how shackles could affect the exhaust install period.

I'll post a picture here in a minute. Yeah, the installer guy said that the springs were arched down more than normal and wouldn't clear the exhaust. Or something like that. But It had to do with the springs.

When I installed coachbuilders2" shackles I didn't see a problem. When I went to add the Icon helper pack, I was there working with the mechanic and he showed me that at full droop the spring was laying hard on the exhaust pipe, and the Icons would make it worse. I took the exhaust pipes and cut the ends off and never looked back. Most people don't really get off road and those that do don't often get into a "full droop" situation. My guess is that for most people that install CB shackles they'll never have a problem and that's why it hasn't come up. I do kinda miss the tips though.
@veg hed you probably have a good tech, and he spotted a problem before it became one.

I gotta agree with gosolo. When I was installing my shackles I saw exactly what he mentioned. I've only got Toytec shackles at 1". With the truck up in the air I didn't see any way to get another .5" without the leafs interfering with the tail pipe. I think at full droop I'll be really close to hitting the way it is now.

I installed the +3 cb shackles and it does hit the exhaust piping at full droop. Reason why the tech said he can't do it is bc it was probably on the lift with the rear end hanging down making it hard to install.

I installed a dual pro exhaust on a sr5 with +3 bc shackles while the whole truck was on the ground. Working on my back was no problem. But at some point I had to lift one side of the axle to clear a bit more space. Overall best way to install this is to have the tech do it with the wheels on the ground.

At flex you will hit.. here are some pics I took before I went on my Moab/Arizona trip...

    IMG_6540.jpg
    IMG_6539.jpg
    IMG_6550.jpg
    IMG_6534.jpg

out there I didn't get into any nasty stuff that interfered with the exhaust or the shackles hitting my spare.

As you can see once you get the leafs hanging it will be difficult to install the pipes. Once installed and you ever get flexy the rubber hangers will flex with so no need to worry about breaking stuff.

    Hope this helps.
    Install yourself save some moolah!!

That's a 35" spare too on a full spare rim btw. It also clears the dual pipes

@16tunterd. For your Toy Tech shackles at 1" setting, so it cleared the TRD Pro exhaust, right? I'm planning on doing the same setup.

Also, what rear shocks do you have? A TRD Pro shocks or let's say a 5160 will travel further down I believe, so something to take into account as well.

    Thanks in advance.

It cleared at 1" but at 1.5" I don't think it would. But then I added an Icon leaf expansion pack 'cause my leafs were looking a little flat. Then the tail pipes were hitting the leafs and I bought some dumped pipes from Keith, @dirtydeeds , and retained the TRD dual mufflers. I'm running Fox 2.5s with resis in the rear. They're only good for +1". So, now I need to switch those to regain some of my lost droop travel. I'lm thinking ADS bypass, Deaver spec. from Matt @mcm.

Glad I stumbled across this thread. My truck came with TRD duals and I was planning on using coachbuilder shackles for the rear lift. Looking at the radflo lift from Toytec it says on the website their rear shackles won’t work with the TRD exhaust.

Dave makes great shackles. I'm happy with the Toytecs I've got too. It looked too close when I was installing the shackles the first time so I went with 1". I did get the Icon expansion pack installed, +1.5, and had the shackles still at +1. I could hear the tailpipes hitting the leafs going over small pot holes in the road. I do get my truck into full droop and fully compressed situations pretty frequently (Thanks to @joonbug) which was partly the reason for dumped pipes.

@joonbug is probably a bad influence, you better watch that dude :D My plan I still to go with the radflos up front w one shim per side and 1.5 shackles in the back. I guess time will tell if it will work or not. The extent of my off roading consists of driving on the beach at the Outer banks surf fishing and going to my hunting camp in the mountains.

@16tunterd. So, if I use ToyTec at 1" setting with Bilstein 5160, do you think it will hit my TRD Exhaust at full droop or would I be all good?

This^^ At full droop the leaf pack will hit the exhaust. I agree, he likely had the truck on a lift and couldn't get it to fit. I have +3 shackles and trd pro exhaust but I'm getting a dump from Dirty Deeds to avoid this same issue and make it a bit louder. @dcsleeper408 pretty much hit the nail on the head here.

Yes spell check. When I miraculously spell a word correctly I always add a couple extra letters to make sure the spell check is working lol (I just did it with the word miraculously) . If you haven't done that before you're lying
