Despite my best efforts I have fallen, Ive succombed to the detailing rabbit hole. I've purchased most of the new Hybrid lineup from turtle wax and am considering getting the entire lineup and clay bar or clay mit and going all in.

My issue is that there is a spray wet wax, a spray 3 in 1 detailer, and theres the spray ceramic coating. Im getting lost in the steps to use the system, and am wondering if all three of these products are not redundant? Theres many tutorials on what steps and products to use with other brands, but with the particular lineup of products ive already got its hard to know which of my spray products area sealer, wax etc and its just a bit over my head. I figure I'll spend the money on a clay bar or mit to really get it clean a couple times a year, maybe just once a year, then I want to seal it and maintain it thorugh the year. I have the wash and wax, the wet wax spray and the polish and wax bottle. Here is my plan with what I already have, let me know if I am doing it wrong or if a different product in the lineup would be better suited.

-wash the truck with dish soap, dry
    -clay bar
-wash again with the ceramic wash and wax
-polish with the polish and wax
    -spray the wet wax

then in the future just "wash and wax" and spray "wet wax"

they recommend using the ceramic spray coating after the wash I believe, I'm just a little confused, are they just trying to sell me more products or will using them all make the ceramic protection last better?

Make sure to use a clay bar lubricant with the clay bar . I was just reading up about this product and once you use the polish and wax to wait 24 hours before you use the spray wax .

Thanks, yes I've read that with synthetic clay or mitts you can use a spray wax as lube, I am considering getting the 3 in 1 detailer as my last purchase of chemical and using it as a lube and as a quick touch up here and there in between washes.

I was intending on getting those, but it doesn't seem to be available on Amazon.ca. They have some older products from turtle wax, but not those hybrid ones so I just ended up getting into the core lineup, which i'm ok with.

I like the idea of doing quick dry spot washes (I live on a dirt road so removing the dust and dirt around the wheel wells sounds nice) so I think I'll get the 3 in 1 detailer, and since I should get the ceramic coating for after polish I'll end up having the whole dang lineup. My truck had better look good !!!

I'm in Canada as well and if your ever looking for a place to order from check carzilla in Calgary. Their prices are very good as well.

While I haven’t used these products specifically, I am also skeptical about these lines of products. Over the last six months or so, a lot of these major companies have come out with these “hybrid ceramic” lines. Using ceramic as a buzzword has become a big trend.

Not to say that they aren’t good products, I’m just skeptical about whether or not it’s just a marketing fad.

My thoughts on similar types of products that I have tried:

Meguair’s Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax: Pretty good, especially for the price.
Meguair’s Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax: Garbage
    Adams Ceramic Spray: Total garbage.
Griots 3 in 1 Ceramic Wax: Outstanding, highly recommend.

It’s really hit or miss in my experience.

I've used them on my kids car for quick and okay results.
But if you'er going through the trouble of claybar and polish, you might as well go all the way with real ceramic.
These spray on products will give you six month protection at best. The real stuff is good for 2 years.
I have done both. you can tell the difference.

Thanks, I'm going to stick with what Ive already got. I think if I do a full detail once a year and maintenance with the spray wet wax or detailer weekly real quick it should give me the results I'm going ot be happy with without spending more money and

I think all these hybid ceramic sprays are basically just a polymer sealant. As far as durability from what I've read, having never used it, TW Seal and Shine beats pretty much everything out there.

I'll give her a go, if its not as good as my lucas slick mist I'll move on. I think if I keep up weekly wash and reapplication of the wet wax spray it will be enough to keep it looking good for years. I intend to keep the truck for a long time. I will do the whole system as they describe and if it doesnt hold up I'll start switching out products until I get what I want.

Ok, so here’s the deal. I was ordering my clay bar and wanted to order my turtle wax ceramic coating (the actual sealant, not the spray wet-wax maintenance one I already have). The issue is that the retail stores that I would buy them at are closed, and Amazon.ca doesnt have the spray in a one pack, just a 2 pack for 55 bucks. I dont see myself ever going thorugh that much sealant if I'm using it once a year, so I ended up getting the TW seal and shine as my sealant. Its less expensive, and from what I've seen it's pretty durable. I also got a mothers speed clay 2.0 as my first dive into clay bar detailing (its not a clay bar I know). I will post up my newbie experiences with these products for other newbies to learn from my mistakes.

Update: Saturday morning I got up early to detail my motorcycle and my truck. I used a foam cannon and sunlight dish soap to strip the vehicles, which worked great and removed the bugs on the front of the vehicles well too. After this I filled my bucket with cold hose water and the hybrid wash and wax and used my wash mit to go over the vehicles. The wash and wax smells good, but to be honest it’s not much better than the old fashioned TW zip wax I’ve been using for years, and this stuff costs more for half the volume. I’ll be switching back to old faithful after this container of hybrid wash and wax is done, also it’s not as slick as I hoped...I’ll get to that. After washing the vehicle and rinsing I dumped the wash water, refilled with a double strength wash and wax solution to use as lube for the mothers speed clay 2.0. I started on my trucks tailgate using copious amounts of the wash and wax and followed the instructions on the speed clay. After I got done the tailgate I rinsed it clean with my power washer. The resulting finish was stripped of any water repellency, despite just having 2 applications of the wash and wax, AND worse yet the entire tailgate was covered in micro scratches. It looked like burnished aluminum! I just about lost it and threw it in a ziplock bag likely
Never to be opened again. So far I was batting 0-2. My next step was to try correct the scratches with the hybrid polish and wax. This product initially seemed a bit thin compared to the compounds I’ve used for my boats, so I was rolling my eyes right away...but I was wrong. This polish and wax was fantastic. I used it on a 5” white pad on my rotary and it was super easy to use. It’s not fussy on if you use too much or too little, on slow speed I could spend 5 minutes on a single area easily and it stayed white until I sped it up to maybe 2500 rpm and buffed it off. I then buffed with a microfibre And presto, it removed all the swirls completely. It left a fantastic slick finish as well. It was easy and fast to use with the rotary and I can’t imagine having any burn through, it’s so gentle. It would not remove deep scratches at all, and light scratches were only lessened, but not removed. With the procedure I was doing I didn’t use the wet wax on my truck But I used it on my motorcycle. It is really not as good as the Lucas slick mist quick wax product. It doesn’t seem to dry as well, you need to go over it many more times with the towel to remove the streaks, and the shine and slickness really didn’t wow me like Lucas did. I won’t be buying it again, I’ll go back to the Lucas. I did use the ice seal and shine after the polish and wax on my truck, and I like it as a sealer. It added some shine and seemed to buff up easier, despite what the internet has said about it being fussy and streaky. I haven’t got the 3 in 1 detailer, but I’d like it or a similar product (maybe I’ll get the griots as mentioned above if it’s available in Canada) for quick details in between washes....anyways, here’s my reviews of the products I used this weekend, followed by the question I’m asking myself now.

-TW hybrid wash and wax 6/10
-TW hybrid polish and wax 9/10
    -TW hybrid wet wax 7/10
-TW Ice seal and shine 8/10
-Mothers speed clay 2.0 0/10 (I could have used a dedicated lube, but the instructions say to use wash water, it was part of why I wanted to try it)

Here is my question, assuming I go back to zip wax car wash, Lucas slick mist for drying aid, I use the hybrid polish and wax for correcting the paint on high wear areas once in a while and go over the truck once a year for the protection, use seal and shine for a wax seal and griots or TW 3in1 detailer for quick wipe downs Am I going to get any compounding effect of these various products or are they not going to stick to each other and it’s all a waste of time? Would I be better off to try a different lineup of products and keep all of my products in one common lineup, or is this just marketing?

I thought you were never supposed to use dish soap because it is too harsh in the clear coat?

I used it to remove any coatings the truck had on it prior to the speed clay. I won’t be using dish soap again this year, or maybe ever. I don’t think the clay is something I’ll pursue further.

For quite a while, people seem to like to use dish soaps, typically Dawn, to strip waxes/sealants. I've looked at others results, and tried it myself, and it's never worked for me. The 'flat water behavior' that is sometimes seen after doing so is more likely a result of surfactants in the soap. I've seen some success after repeating the process. Should you wash your vehicle with it all the time.....I'd not suggest it. Dish soaps are more harsh and likely not Ph-balanced. If you want a strip wash product, Purple Power vehicle and boat wash is a better bet, but not as a maintenance wash. There are thousands of safe options out there for maintenance wash products.

There is some truth to product synergy, but I'm not smart enough to understand the chemistry that supposedly supports the notion. I try and create a solid base, that being a durable sealant (Wolfgang SIO2 in my case), and maybe a carnuba product as a topper. My maintenance washes do not have a wax component, especially if, for a drying aid, I'm using a product that leaves protection behind. Are you saying that you use all of these product, except the TW Polish/Wax, every time you wash your vehicle?

Not all products layer well, but again, there are probably very good chemistry-related reasons why......and I lack the intellect to decipher them

I'm just trying to figure out what products I want to use. My plan is to do a once or twice a year detail where I polish the truck and seal it, but the rest of the time I want to just wash and drying aid, or occasional quick wipe with a detailer. I dont have the patience or time for 3 hours every week.

I presume that if once a week I wash it with a somewhat slick shampoo or pH neutral soap and then apply drying aid it should remain slick enough to not be covered in bugs and dirt come the following saturday. In the spring or maybe also in the fall in preperation for winter I would like to spend some time and really get in there and put some time into sealing up the paint and stacking up some protection, and through winter I use the self serve carwashes and basically just foam and rinse with the drying aid they offer out of the spray gun.

I detail the truck twice a year. It's 7 years old with 96000 miles, so I've learned to live with a certain level of minor paint defects. I do have a polishing step included in my full details, followed by a panel prep and seal. It gets washed once every three weeks, and I use P&S Pearl shampoo.....very slick, and very economical to use. I dry it with Griots PFM drying towel combined with a Ryobi cordless leaf blower. It gets a quick wipe down with Bead Maker and I call it a day.

Your plan looks solid to me. I wish I had the time to wash once a week......I have three vehicles in my household to maintain, hence the reason I only get to wash once every three weeks. Your driving conditions in your area will probably give you some insight if you're doing enough.

My truck is black and I live on a dusty dirt road . I treat my truck like a truck so It's never going ot be perfect, and my paint is so crappy that i cant keep up with filling stone chips, but I dont want a crappy old rust bucket by the time its 15 years old. Good idea on the leaf blower! never thought of that. It sounds like I'm on the right track anyways, I'll likely keep fiddling until I find the products I prefer and stick to a similar regimen. I wish we had the same products available here, Ive tried to find a lot of the stuff you americans can get and its just not available or I dont know where to look for it.

These guys sell pretty much everything you can think of with very reasonable prices and shipping. They are located in Calgary. All their prices are in Canadian by the way. Amazon.ca sucks for most detailng products, wayyy to expensive or not even available.

Looking at that website.....you've got tons of options there. It looks like you've pretty much all the same brands available to you as I have available to me.

I watch that guy all the time. He uses some products that are not really mainstream, but still very good.

    thanks guys.

I went to crappy tire on my lunch break and got a nice drying towel so I dont have to use 10 little microfibre towels, and a bottle of jet black detailer from TW. I have a mixed bag of products now, and I think i'll "find some products I like and use them" simple enough :)
