Why do you Mod Your Tundra...?

Everybody with some oil stains on their hands and grease spots on their jeans likes to tinker with their ride. We all probably spend way too much money, time and thought on what we want to do next to make our trucks "Ours". There are many reasons to do so and they all are valid as long your truck makes you happy. There's show and shine guys, desert racers, tuners, trail warriors, work haulers, overlanders, suburban cruisers and those guys that just want a nice ride; all have a place and a following. What's your impetuous for your mods or to put it another way what do you hope to achieve when you start fiddling with your Tundra?


For me my main focus is a hybrid focus on backwoods travel and work. I'm not a farkle or trend guy and like a subtly modded truck. Everything I do to the truck has to serve a purpose and have the emphasis on function over style. Luckily what works well for a work truck also works well for an overland style truck. I'm looking for relaibility and useability with just enough changes to improve the function of the truck without taking it so far that parts become specialized and hard to get if your deep in the boonies or the mods lead to having to make drastic changes to stock components. My Tundra is set-up to travel anywhere in the country (outside of offroad parks or extreme trails) I point it with no fuss and little drama. I want to travel and enjoy myself in the backwoods settings I find myself in without the ass ache of breaking stuff just to break stuff so I keep my truck simple.

So what's your vision of what you want your Tundra to be and how do you want to use it?

 

Minor mods to mine, added an Alpine head unit for Nav and backup camera. Back flip bed cover for a bit of security.

 

I'll be mostly done modding mine once I get lights hooked up. My focus was to make it so I can get to the desert to go shooting, up in the mountains for camping/hunting. I went with extra lights due to positive experience having them on my jeep. Extra lights are very handy for the 2AM drives up forest roads.

 

I love looking at my truck, and I want to love the way it sounds (why do corsa's have to be so expensive). So the minor mods I plan to do will be mainly to preserve the truck (husky weather beaters, maybe paint protect, line-x the bed, fluid film her underside), make her look the way I want (window tint, dip bumpers, emblems, color match grill), improve functionality (undercover swing case tool box for lack of interior storage, running boards for the wife/kids), and make it sound like the beast that it is (corsa sport exhaust). When it's finally the way I want it I will feel so pumped. Then I will want new wheels and a lift. Then I will want a new intake. Then I will want towing mirrors, then nerf bars that look more aggressive than the running boards, then.......... ohhh it never stops who are we kidding?? We love making little changes and constantly dreaming of the next thing....
