What Color Should I Wrap My Front Bumper Caps and Grill Surround/Bulge?

Hey Guys,

Hopefully you can help me out...

I upgraded my rear chrome bumper to a black rhino lined bumper, so now I don’t want the front bumper caps to be chrome so I’m going to wrap them in black vinyl.

So just like that I’m going down the road of deleting the chrome.
What color should I wrap the Hood bulge and Surround?
Should I match them to the truck or the bumper caps?

I bought this grill insert...

It’s this grill and color. Here he has black and it looks damn good. But cant help wondering about the color match.

 

On my 16 mgm, I installed a fab fours bumper in black, then I had the stock grill and hood bulge sprayed in bedliner, cost me $50. It turned out awesome. Loves the black with the mgm

 

Back when I color matched the bumper ends and grille surround, then added black mesh grill

 

That’s a great idea. What brand liner is that? COlor?

 

Did you use the Orafol?

 

@Tundyfundy i used Scorpian liner, the mesh was a cheap ebay grill

I decided to go matte black vinyl by Avery for the bulge and bumper caps. It should arrive tomorrow so I’ll finally get my chance to try vinyl wrapping!

 

Be sure to add pictures when you are done. I want to see it as I am considering the black as well.

 

Will do! I’ve been looking forward to this project for a long time. I have the EAG grill ready to go and the bulge and surround off the truck already and just waiting on the vinyl. Heat gun, squeegee, exacting knife, and alcohol ready to go for when it gets here! I had coated my front fog lights in yellow laminx but since the new grill has three amber running lights I also ordered new laminx sheets that are amber. If I like the amber I’ll undo my DRL delete that I did when I installed my headlights so the amber turns run all the time with the grille.

 

I also ordered a custom emblem that looks so BA!

 

finally got the vinyl in. I didn’t want to linex the bulge because I didn’t want the rough surface against the hood paint. Cleaned bulge with alcohol.

Next I placed vinyl inlays in the corners of the bulge.

then I wrapped the good bulge. Took me about 3 hours but was easier than I thought. I used Avery matte black.


I thought it came out amazing! Matched the EAG grille perfectly!!



Next I installed my custom hand made emblem!

Then on to installing the NSV light bar into the bulge as well as installing the bulge and grille onto the truck.

I still have to wire the running lights but I ran out of daylight so I’ll have to do it tomorrow.
Tomorrow I’ll wrap the bumper caps if the weather is good. It might rain. I am so happy with the way it came out! After seeing the hue of the running lights I will for sure change the color of the lamin-x on my fog lights with amber in place of the yellow.

 

It seems this grill will allow more airflow into the engine bay so also stoked about that.

 

You can see the red vinyl in through my windshield. Planning on adding some TRD stripes across the grill and surround as well. You know, my own personal touch!

Haha yes! Me and the wife and baby moved into the camper to cut our overhead while we save for our house. We’re on that a Dave Ramsey plan and on track to be 100 percent debt free by the end of June!! Can’t lie though, it’s close quarters for the three of us and a dog. We just keep reminding ourselves of the reason we’re doing it and keep on trucking.

 

It was my man cave now it’s just a cave. When we get our house I’ll make sure there’s. Place to park it so that the man cave will live once again!

 

It sounds like it will pay off in the end though.

The hood bulge looks great. What are the vinyl inserts you put in the inner corners? Is is pre-cut vinyl?
I have my pro grill on order and maybe I'll forego buying the paint matched factory bulge and attempt vinyl wrapping too!
I wanted to wrap my interior silver trim pieces and maybe the rear bumper caps if I feel confident enough...

Haha rice and beans! For sure. They weren’t precut. I cut them and then mocked them up and trimmed it to fit. I cut them out of the same vinyl I wrapped the bulge in. It was easy-ish. I would have also put an inlay on the inside upper portion of the bulge as well because there’s a small strip of chrome coming through where the vinyl was too short but it looks good with the light bar and you can’t really see it. I got 1 yard of vinyl 3’x 5 feet. It was enough to wrap the bulge like 4 times so I’d say get the same size and give it a go! Message me when your ready and I’ll give you the run down of the tips I used. I watched like 3 hours of wrapping videos. I didn’t really use much heat as I didn’t want to stretch it too thin. Cold stretch it and it will come out better. You can pull really hard on it and it smooths it out. If you mess up just peel it off and try again with a new piece!

 

The vinyl was 40 bucks.

 

I used one large piece and stretched it over the bulge and glassed it over all the areas. And then I made a cut along the upper part of the bulge where the hole is and that allowed the part of vinyl over the hole to create a flap that covered the bottom part of the bulge that slopes into the hole perfectly.

 

Thanks for the tips! I'll take you up on the advice when I get a chance to work on it. I'll order the vinyl tomorrow. Probably order a larger sheet since I want to eventually try the rear bumper caps too. I'm excited to try.

 

I can give you a strip of mine if you want. I should be passing your place sometime next month. If you have it uninstalled I’ll stick around and show you how I did it.
