    hello all-

I know there may be some bias here. I drove the taco and tundra (and 4Runner) yesterday, and liked them all. Anyone come from a Tacoma here? No kids, just wife and me. Having said that, tundra seems kinda big (but I liked it). Tacoma is nice too. Getting a pro in whatever I decide. Leaning towards a manual Tacoma. Let me know what. You think?

    Thanks,

    Tim

If you have any intention of using it as a truck (towing or hauling) then get the Tundra.
If you are going to take it off road then get the Tundra.
If you are going to use it as a daily driver to and from an office job then get the Tundra.

We may be biased here on the Tundra forum..... We all got the Tundra.

    Stock for now!!!
Tough decision......i bought the Taco new (my first ever new truck) in 2012.....hell i was on cloud nine...well with 3 kids all in car seats it was time to get bigger truck......no option but the Tundra.....still have the Taco cause just have not had time to get cleaned up and listed for sale......two completely different trucks.....I will tell you, I still love driving them both but the Tundra is AWESOME......for the little bit more you will spend you get so much more......safety, comfort, quiet ride, better visibility in traffic. The only minor draw back with the Tundra is I am getting 14 MPG (it is a 4x4) and I was getting 17 (also 4x4) MPG in the TACO.....You came to the wrong forum you want any recommendation other then the TUNDRA!!!!

    Welcome to the forum.

You didn't tell us much about your situation.

With children (well, wife and husband often produce children, haha) definitely Tundra. Tundra is 21 inches longer, 5 inches wider and 6 inches taller. The difference in room is really quite dramatic.

If you have no plan for kids and if you live in large a large city or commute to a large city and you really don't need or want the room, Tacoma.

If you go to gnarly off road places, Tacoma would help you more (factory locker, etc.). If you are determined to get the manual transmission, Tundra does not offer that option.

Power and capability, Tundra hands down. Overall, I think you get much more bang for your buck with Tundra. But either of these will give you an awesome resale value. In other words, if you change your mind down the road, you could always trade without losing too much.

Compromise and get the 4Runner. If it's just you and your wife, no kids and no plans of towing, 4R should work. You can take off-road too if needed. All depends on what you intend to use it for and future family plans really.

In 2001 I bought a brand new Tacoma access can and was in love with it. I then realized I needed more room. 2004 comes along and I trade the Tacoma in for a 2005 tundra access cab. I thought to myself the access cab has plenty room for me and passengers. I couldn't have been more wrong. I barely fit 2 adults and 2 kids. It was way too uncomfortable to for me and my passengers. I did keep my tundra up until it got totaled on 10/2016 but I always thought I should have gotten the crewcab.

Once I got my check from the insurance company I bought my self the tundra crewcab I've always needed and wanted. I also considered the Tacoma crewcab but I soon realized it was a pretty tight fit in there just like my tundra access cab.

The Tacoma is a great truck but I can see you growing out of it pretty quickly. Do you plan on having kids? If yes you definitely start to out grow it once you put the car seat in.

I came from a Taco dbl cab (the largest cab) and purchased my tundra. The tundra is nice and big. Poor gas mileage but the V8 is hard to beat. My mom has a Taco and sometimes I wish I had my Taco back or bought a newer taco. If you plan on towing a lot then tundra. Trail offloading I would suggest a Taco, being smaller and more nimble. My tundra dbl cab is more than enough room for rear passengers and the crew max was Ginormous. Test drive both and if you need more time to see what suits you then rent them. Renting will allow you to wash it, get groceries, go off roaring and other things that you cant test while test driving. Who knows you may find a little annoyance with something...or find something that you actually love about it.

I have to admit the Taco with the manual trans did make me stop and think for a while, but I needed the payload and towing capacity more.

Thought that too. Miss driving manual and Taco would be fun. Unless you drive thru heavy traffic everyday and then it sucks at that time.

I drove the Tacoma prior to my Tundra. The Tacoma is waaaaaayyyyy underpowered. Drive both and the decision will be clear.

That Cement double cab Tacoma is the coolest truck I've ever seen. They want too much damn money for it though at $44k. I'd spend a few grand more and get the tundra without batting an eyelash.

I'd go Tundra if it were me, and here's why: you rarely can have too much room, too much power, or too much pickup.

IMO, if you get the Taco you may end up wishing you'd gotten the Tundra. But, I doubt you'd get the Tundra and wish you'd gotten the Taco. With my luck, I'd get the Taco and the following week my wife would tell me we're having twins.

i too was in this dilemma, well.. taco or tundra.. In the end I opted for the tundra based upon the logic that i've never heard anyone say "I wish i had a smaller truck" Yep, there may be times when you'd want an even bigger truck than the tundra, but apart from when you're at the gas pump, I don't think you'll ever want a smaller truck.

The other thing I think i'm seeing with the taco, is the issue of resale. One of the reasons i wanted the taco was because it's one of the best vehicles when considering resale. I fear though, with the latest version, that won't be quite as good as it is with the previous. I've seen a lot of people complain about the new transmissions and lack of power compared to the last generation. It might not impact resale... but there's signs it could

If you have a dog, there is also this. After having a crew max with a rear window that rolls down if I got anything else my dog would probably bite me in the dick. This is easily my favorite feature of this truck. From spring until fall I drive around with that rear window rolled down. IMG_5808.jpg

I considered a Tacoma for awhile but you can get so much more truck for not much more money. Better resale, better powertrain, better use as a truck. If you want a a crawler, will only drive with you and your wife, won't tow, and gas mileage is a serious consideration I would think a Tacoma may fit your needs better.

I realized a crewmax Tundra will barely be big enough for 2 car seats and my lab and golden.

Get both...you can carry the Tacoma in the back of the Tundra and when your wife wants to do something on her own, unload the Tacoma and let her do her thing...

I just moved to a Tundra after having 3 Tacoma 2nd gens. All of them were great trucks and filled a need at the time. (just me and the misses) I needed something with more towing capability and the Tundra was the logical choice. resale and Toyota dependability. Once you drive the Tundra and then the Tacoma you will realize the power of the Tundra and probably make your decision. Best of luck either way.

A little of this and a little of that.
My brother bought a brand new Tacoma for his commute back and forth from home to work, and to have a 4x4. It's a very nice little truck, but it's just that.......a little truck. I rode in it and while it was comfortable just not roomy enough for me. When it came time to buy my Tundra the Taco wasn't even a consideration.
