Have been in the market for a grocery getter/winter beater and ran across this. Don't know much about FJ's, so i figured I'd ask the knowledgeable folks here. ;) Beside the color which I'm still not sure about, what are the top things i should look for? Was frame rust a problem on these like other earlier Toyotas? And as far as the 4.0 Ltr. goes, any major problems on them considering the mileage? :notsure:...Thanks.

Some of the most important pictures for a Massachusetts truck are not in the ad—the undercarriage!

Great point!..I always climb under for any inspection, but wasn't sure if these were more prone to rust like the earlier Tundras...Thanks.

Front rad supports for rust, and 4.0s all have a mating surface that will sooner or later start leaking oil. The engine has to be pulled to properly fix it, not a huge issue if it’s not gushing oil. It’s on the passenger side of the engine, timing inspection cover area. The motors are good motors but shift points can make it feel like a brick turd sled

OK, I'll mark down (brick turd sled) in the negative column. ;)..Thanks.

I just bought this one first ever FJ 2014 last Friday......but I had been looking at FJ or 4runners but I wanted the rarity of the FJ.

Did yours come with lockers or any of the ATRAC stuff? I’ve heard nothing but good things about those FJCs, smaller and more nimble than the 4runner, just not great for a family of one or more

2014 4X4 with Rear locker and A trac is on this FJ as well as a pretty darn good stock sound system which surprised the hell out of me. I do only have my 10 yr old now so that why I got it he can sit behind the wife when I drive I'm 6 foot 2 so gotta push that seat back. But the ride is what surprised me more as well I thought it would be worse than the Tundra but its much smoother. Previous owner added old man emu shocks

Thanks. I’ve always loved the look. The 13 TT in cement was my first choice but could not find a brand new one. I had to wait for the 14 from the dealer. The value has always been steady. Only vehicle I have ever owned that has kept its value.
@TILLY, look at a few. The earlier ones had problems with stress cracks inside the engine bay area. 2010 and newer were better.

I live in Murrieta. You have a nice fj too. You made a great choice over the 4runner. The fj will hold its value compared to the 4runner.

That's was also why I got it......what a good size tire for the FJ to not be to heavy good for trails?

Got an 08’ FJ for the wife in between a couple T4R’s - She loved it and so did I - It had a manual transmission which also means it was AWD with a selectable 4-HI/ 4-LO switch and factory rear locker - My wife was always confident driving it in the snow with never a slip thx to the BFG- M/T

The factory stereo was awesome compared to the crap they put in my 18’ Tundra thx in part to the factory sub in rear and surround sound.

Biggest complaint about FJ is visibility out rear and sides of FJ while in traffic lots of blin-spots - but on the other hand the wife loved the big flat windshield and the 3 baby wipers

Since it was the wife’s daily driver I never got to wheel it to is potential-We both had a bitter- sweet feeling when we traded it in on her current 16’ T4R about a year ago- wish I had the money to keep it - but needed the “ trade money “ to put down on the RUNNER— Really wanted to keep it and make it my trail rig with a running start !!

They hold their value thx in part to not being produced anymore- if u can find one for a deal I’d scoop it up !!

    GOOD LUCK !!

So far all I have done to it is a wax job.....antenna install, lights on both side view mirrors that the FJ have are real dull so I installed LEDs, ordered RCI rock sliders on Monday hopefully they come in soon, KNN filter with filter delete, new OEM spark plugs
