RV Detailing

Ok detailing wizards.......educate me on RV exterior care. Looking to do a full detail after some work gets done to the RV......roof coating, new awning and new decals. I live close to the beach and the RV will be mostly used for desert trips as a base camp. I've been looking at some of the Meguiar's Marine products. Any info would be great!

I got a 18' Minnie Winnie and I'm thinking about using the same stuff as I use on my truck on the camper.

 

Well a truck is mostly painted metal & Rv's are usually gel-coated fiberglass & stickers.
While any products will work on any surface, certain ones are designed to work better with certain surfaces.

1st product for detailing an RV - good sturdy ladder!
I keep thinking I should get one of those ladders that open into a scaffold, but nothing's caught my fancy yet.

I just picked up my current B+ last fall, just as it got too cold out. This is what happens after years in the sun & insufficient detailing:

this stuff on tacoworld for a boat restore. it says it works on RVs too so i wouldnt hesitate to use it. we had a boat that had pretty bad oxidation on the paint and were considering getting it repainted. we found this stuff and followed all the directions and everyone swore that we had a freshly painted boat. after that we would just use it annually and it kept looking amazing. this was on an old parasail boat. it did a hell of a job. seriously impressive stuff.

 

Interesting stuff for the right applications. Wouldn't work on mine as it would lock in the paint fade. I've lost color, so I'll have to repaint. Not sure if it would work for the OP as they say don't use on shiny surfaces & as he's getting new decals...

 

true, true. our paint looked pretty damn faded too though. it was pretty cool to see. but your paint looks gone almost so yea it wouldnt do anything but make it look like a cool faded paint job lol.

 

use a good chrome polish / wax on those bumpers.
I've found that water will drip off the two outside front edges of the hood, land on the bumper & over a couple years can leave stripes etched into the chrome. Keep those bumpers well waxed, particularly in line with the two edges of the hood.

 

2 days worth of work.... but the old girl is shining again.

Thanks man.... I forgot what a p.i.t.a. it can be to detail an RV.

 

If it is chalky or oxidized then you need a very light rubbing/polishing compound. Otherwise wash her down with dawn dish detergent. Clay bar it, and believe it or not go buy a bottle of Nu-Finish at Wal-Mart. Before the flaming begins, hear me out LOL... Assuming it hasn't been detailed in a while the Dawn will cut grease, oil, and tree sap. Polishing compound will burn off the oxidation, and Nu-Finish is probably the toughest cheap polish I have found. It's a Camper, not a Ferrari. Tilex is good on the awnings, and then give them a good coat of 303 Aerospace afterwards. As far as the roof, I would use Dawn again. Check all your laps and don't be afraid to re-seal them if they look weak with Dicor lap sealant.
