I'm desperately wanting to replace the hideous wood grain panels in my 05 Limited. Anyone tried painting or hydrodipping? I'd like to have them done in burgundy/maroon to match the paint. Any tips?
I'd also like to hydrodip all my emblems flat black

Nice! What did you do to prep it? How many coats? Did you finish it with anything?

Lightly wet sand with 800 grit, 2 coats of SEM primer, dry 24ish hours, 3 coats of SEM satin black, dry 24ish hours then a coat of SEM satin clear coat. The prep is key!

I want to retrofit that center console on my '01. Definitely looks nice! Not sure if it can be done but going to try :)

I like having no console on the hump. Frees up space. Roomier.

Is there more power outlets on that console? I really want to put that style in my truck at some point but dont want to lose the 2 outlets I have.

There are two outlets on the passenger side. Plus the usb plugs and voltmeter I installed in one of the switch locations.

I would like to see if any has replaced their center consoles. I would like to find an option to put one in that is higher with a wider flat top instead of round one stock console.

Find a wreckers or pick n pull around you that has a few tundras. Hopefully one has the long console. Make sure you grab the brackets for the trans tunnel.

I hear the DC and ac had different consoles. Maybe the Sequoia too. I know my buddies 01 is smaller than my 06 console.

Were you able to find a different console? I have one like that and want to get it replaced also.

No, not yet. Found a few Tundras and Seq's at the local yard but the interiors were pretty trashed. There was one that looked like it was in ok shape but it had multiple Biohazard stickers posted throughout the truck. I didn't even bother...

I replaced the stock short console on my 2000 AC with a long one from a 2003 yesterday. From my research, it should have been easy. It wasn’t.

The back cut in and left 1.5 inches of bare floor exposed where the carpet stopped. I went back to the wrecking yard and pulled apart a console from a sequoia and replaced the annoying panel. But while I picked up a space for a usb plug, I lost my heater vents. I’ll likely cut some in with a dremmel.

There were also no bolt holes. I took the brackets from the wrecked one, but they didn’t have matching holes on mine. I had to use self tapping screws.

In the end, it looks good and was pretty cheap, and it covered the cig burn in my carpet.

I had good success on a console swap from a Sequoia in a salvage yard to my 01 AC 2wd. Ill get some photos up soon in a thread. Make sure you get the brackets underneath!

I had the same setup. I pulled a console from a 2005 Limited DC. For the most part, it fits. I was only able to utilize the rear bracket and then attach the front trim to the front dash. I think it fits great and its secure enough that it isn’t going anywhere. I am considering plasti-dipping it black now that I’ve seen what it could look like. This is probably the best ‘mod’ I’ve done to my truck aside from the headlights.

I like the look of the long console, but it just seems to take up more space and doesn't seem to add more function or real storage. Definitely makes the interior look more upscale.

Wait so can you just take a console out of a later model first gen and easily fit it to a 2001? I really like the look of that better than how my 2001 comes stock.

I you like going to pick up your own pizzas then that extra space is critical in your 2001.

@Professional Hand Model lolol. Now that i think about it, it would be a little much having that center console. Plus not having the heated seat buttons in there looks kinda dumb. The center console looks sooooo sick though. Makes me almost wish i held out for a later 1st gen limited but whatevs

I kind of like the wood trim. I'd trade you mine if you're going to dip it lol. I recently picked up one with the silver/gray looking cupholder piece.

Not that it is a big deal, but the problem with these switches, in my experience, is that they're very easy to turn on by mistake. Both myself and passengers have flipped our seat heaters on unknowingly.
