    Be willing to spend A LOT of time training and exercising. They’ll make it worth your while, but it’s a lot of work. Add considerable time to that if you want any skills beyond just having a good family dog (detection, protection, etc.).

    Also, you have to be the alpha/leader in the household and that has to be recognized by the dog.

    If you can’t do those things, it’s maybe not the right breed.

    Lots of folks here have GSDs, I’m sure others can chime in with more wisdom.

    This^^ We lost our buddy Lido GSD to cancer in October. He was 10. Our daughter is moving; so we got Baby Gianna, another GSD to watch out for her while our daughter is across the country. Baby Gianna comes home May 4th. She's 4 weeks old today. We got lots of training to do!
