Hey tundra crew, so I was looking into upgrading from a 26 gallon tank to the transfer flow tank or the oem 38 gallon tank. I was going to ask my buddy ship the tank to Arizona and pick it up and get it installed in Cali. Has anyone gotten away with the smog test? And if I get the 38 gallon tank installed at the dealership how much money am I looking at? Thanks for the help.

I've been looking at that thread. I don't feel comfortable messing with the gas tank.

I was thinking the same thing. My 2016 has the 26 gal take as well. Then I began to think I can to northern tool and buy a 45 gal in bed tank for 526 or less.. and just in case things get bad done the road I can get distance real quick with having to stop 45+26=68 gal. 13 gal per mile x 68= 884 miles

If you see the transfer flow there is a visible label that states not ca carb legal or something. I think it will depend on where you go. Bunch of places will probably overlook it since it’s a new truck. That’s your call though.
dealer will rape you on the price for install on the Oem tank

Yeah I know the dealer might rape me on the install...just wondering how big the raping is going to be. Damn didn't know it had a label saying that....maybe I could just scratch it off lol

Would the tank come up during a smog test? Curious how CA tests for that

I was reading up on the forum, alot cali dudes are worried about that. I'm just looking for someone actually running the tank here in this communist state and not having issues down the road with the restrictions.

Tank it self is a 1000+ plus install. Not worth it to me. I will send pic once I get mines done.

Sorry if my question seemed snarky...I'm re-reading it now with fresh eyes and that wasn't the intent. It was an honest question. I'm always curious about how CA does these types of things, especially since WA treats CA as the "amazing big bro/sis" that it has to emulate.

I would also be asking lots of questions. Maybe even searching other OEM forums for answers...good luck!

Funny thing is, Transfer Flow is located in Chico, CA, but they can’t sell some of their products in CA.

I feel bad for you guys. All those rules and regulations and gas prices.

They do a visual inspection on the tank. Gotta wonder if you have it painted black and get a plastic skid made up for the bottom would they even see it

Have a quick story, (happened today actually)
Son borrows my 2021 cement grey beast to trailer his Ducati up north to a track that has club races.
He takes my truck, my trailer and heads off with his friends and their bikes.
I get a phone call and I'm thinking, Oh God he got in an accident or something.
Well he called to complain about being a nice guy and topping off the tank for me up there.
It was one third down and it cost him a shit ton to "top er off" LOL
Of course I said "your gettin off cheap".
    I love that big 38.......

Wish I had the 38 in my mine, but the 46 last forever without stops to sketchy gas stations. I traveled from Sacramento to temecula ca without filling up, the wife wanted to stop for food but I told her this was for "science".
