I would request something like momentax or posatex. Or see if they have BNT to pack in the ear. The cleaner is fine.

@Kerch71 @jaredmillerdvm My co-worker was just talking to me about his "daughter" (7 year old lab)and said she was panting for the last few days and when he woke up this morning her eyes looked like this....due to COVID all vets locally are closed for the next few weeks...any suggestions or diagnosis would be hugely helpful...THANK YOU both!!!!

Would it be possible to get a close up pic of the eyes? Do they both look the same?

I'm not sure what would cause such a drastic change that quickly, but there is definitely something systemic going on. Anytime eyes are involved, I consider it an emergency. Are there any emergency hospitals open near them? Some are staying open. He needs to be taken for evaluation and diagnostics. It looks to me like a severe case of anterior uveitis, where the inside tissue of the eyes becomes severely inflamed, which can result from a systemic illness. But I can't tell you what that is without further diagnostics.

His response when I asked how his dog is doing...since we are all teleworking now.
“Pretty incredible story, actually. She is doing much better the cloudiness in her eyes is gone and she seems to be recovering fully. The vet gave her steroids and massive doses of antibiotics as she diagnosed the problem to be optic neurosis. Had we not acted immediately she would’ve gone blind.”

Yesterday my kids had the dog on the trampoline and when he went to get down I am not sure if he landed incorrectly but he started to limp on his front leg. I ordered a brace online just in case its sprained or injured. Any advice on how to care for his front leg?

Give it time, rest and have your vet prescribe some anti-inflammatories. It's probably a tendon strain if I had to guess. I'm not a fan of braces because they can actually delay healing by providing too much support. They potentially make the leg weaker. If it's not improved within 7-10 days, then xrays are in order to make sure there isn't any bone or joint pathology. Most dogs recover completely with some rest and Carprofen.

Since you mentioned Carprofen, I have a question. We have a 14 year old dog. She's 50 pounds, been 40 most of her life so overweight, but we can't seem to get the extra weight off. Like most geezers, including myself, she's pretty stiff some of the time. The vet gave us Carprofen, half of a 75 mg pill. The label says every 12 hours but the vet said as needed because of possible liver damage. She seems much more active if we keep it regular, once a day or twice. My thoughts are that active at 14 is worth the potential issue. Am I off base?

no you are exactly right. I would keep my dog on 1/2 tab every 12 hours until the day she passed if it made her more comfortable. at 14, 99.9% chance she passes away from something other than liver dz from chronic NSAID use. Add gabapentin if needed.

I agree with @jaredmillerdvm. I've had patients that have been on Carprofen for a very long time with little to no affect on the liver. Adding Gabapentin is a great idea and may help decrease the dosage of Carprofen that's needed to keep your dog comfortable. At 14 years, comfort and pain relief should definitely be priority.

Meet Bella, our 10+ year old Boston Terrier. She's got some tear marks that now seem to be getting worse. Her lower flap is now starting to get the tear marks, and the hair around there is kind of stiff and looks like it might be swelled a slight bit. We've been using some cleaning whipes (shammy motion) along the folds, and seems to pull some of the discoloration off, but not a whole bunch. When we bath her, we scrub it as much as we can, but being close to her eyes, we are scared to use soap.
    Any advice?

Sometimes, it's worth having your vet take a look at the eyes. At this age, and being a Boston, they can develop changes in the lubrication of the corneas. Your vet can do a Schirmer tear test to make sure she has adequate tear production. If she does, then I'll often prescribe some triple antibiotic with steroid in it to use as needed. This will lubricate the eye and often decrease drainage and staining. In the meantime, wipes or a warm washcloth can be used to minimize the buildup.

Not a whole lot you can do to get rid of it. I would say get some medicated wipes from ur vet I get baby wipe and wipe them daily. Scrub inside the folds and use qtips if needed. If u accidentally get something in the eyes flush them with eye wash!

Thanks guys. I just wiped her eyes with a warm wash cloth. I'm not too worried about the sight of it, just if it could cause problems down the line?
Is it just part of getting old or should I be more proactive with my vet about it?

Hello Vets, and thank you again for opening this forum!

I have a question for you. I have a 12, almost 13 year old female cat, indoor only that has started scratching at both her ears over the last couple of weeks. She doesn't seem to be in pain and she isn't shaking her head, just the frequent scratching.

Is there a possibility, even if she is an indoor only cat that she has ear mites? What else could it be and is there anything I can do at home to help her? She has a furry ears on the inside, not sure if that makes a difference. I am pretty sure she has some Ragdoll genetics in her for sure!

    Thanks for any info!

If you haven’t recently added a new pet then unlikely. I would guess allergies or ear infection. Try mixing white vinegar and rubbing alcohol 50:50 and flush ears out. No fleas I guess? Any other pets in house?

No I have not recently added a pet, but my sister did bring over her new Morkie Puppy, but the two cats were mortified of him (even though they are bigger then he) and stayed far away from him. I looked and no fleas, and the other cat is not itching at all. Her ears are a bit waxy looking, not sure if that could cause itching?

This is a stupid question, but I have never flushed cats ears. Do I just quirt that mixture in with a syringe and let it drip out? I may be killed by the cat while doing it LOL, but I am willing to try it if you think it nay help,

    Thanks!
