Like the title says. I installed a TRD rear sway bar today. Now when my rear suspension flexes, there is a loud clunk from the side that I’m turning into. It almost sounds like a crack noise.
I’m assuming this is not normal. Any advice?

    TIA

Did you loose fit and torque the bolts to spec with full weight of the vehicle on the ground? If you bolted and tightened everything up in the air then dropped it down, something is binding.

I didn’t have it up on lift. Did it all on the ground.

Maybe need to check the torque On the bolts?

I have a 2019 crewmax and once I added a 2" lift my rear sway bar did the exact same thing. Before the lift not one noise from the rear. A couple of weeks ago I pulled the rear sway bar off and not one pop. Soon I will put mine back on and locate the noise, but know you're not the only one. It has to be in the torque specs as there isn't much there. I have been wondering about mounting it behind the axle instead of under it. I've seen a lot of people do that but not sure if it will help.

I'll be watching in case you get it figured out

Is your truck lifted at all?

I installed mine per instructions and torqued down to spec. Let me tell you that torquing to spec can be very crucial in any of these moving parts. Go back, verify your install and verify your torque specs using a torque wrench. Something is most likely wrong with the install. Lifted with rear and front sway bar silent as an Owl.

Did you use the supplied bushing grease?

Post a pic. You might have accidentally put the mounts on wrong. I’ve seen it happen.

I’m going to a buddy’s now to get another torque wrench to check again.

Some people mount it that way if their truck is lifted. It may be hitting the exhaust as I see it’s the TRD dual.

You would typically mount the bar that way if you have lowered the rear like I have. Shortened end links are required when you lower the rear, so your long end links are probably binding in some way.

I have the pro suspension and +2 coach builders. I didn’t mount it the way he did because I didn’t feel like moving the brake lines. But at full droop my leaf springs hit the edge of the sway bar. I don’t know if I’m going to get some extended links or eventually remove the coach builders and add some spring packs.

On that note, the only time they hit is on full flex. And I’ve never hit them just driving around corners. Which leads me to believe it must be his exhaust.

Looking at the connecting bolts, they don’t look like they are torqued properly at all. You can see the alignment is off and there is space between the bushings.

That's what it sounds like too. I re checked the torque specs and they are spot on 48 for bottom of the links, 84 on the top.

I'll try swinging it back down to the bottom of the axle.

    You guys rock.

I'll pull those washers out, re torque. Take it for a spin. If that doesn't fix it, I'll try putting it back under the axle like Rex suggested.

One thing I did when I added the coachbuilders was flip that bolt so that the nut is towards the tire.

Mine sounds like a Loud pop when taking a slow sharp turn or coming out a steep driveway. Is that what yours sounds like?

Mine didn't start until I changed rear shocks and added rear shackles.

I thought I messed something up with the lift but after taking it apart and rechecking everything figured it was the sway bar.

Once I took the sway bar off it went away, but I want the bar back on...

I'm in the exact same boat as you...

I have the coachbuilder +2 shackles. I'm going to try a couple things this afternoon, I'll report back when I've exhausted all the recommendations in this thread.

It pops like something is bound. I don't know for sure, but I'll find out. Hell, there are only 4 spots for it to bind.

Damn good thread going on right here. I'll keep this in mind when I pull the trigger on my sway bars.

One thing that a buddy recommend was to get a bottle of soapy water and spray one joint only and then drive the truck and see if it still makes the noise. If it still makes the noise spray down another joint and repeat. Once you locate the joint you can trouble shoot it easier. Might be worth a try if you run out of ideas.

I can't wait for my new rear springs to show up so I can try again. Good luck!
