Hello, I'm looking for ideas on what to do with the holes left behind from a 5th wheel hitch I removed. It came on the truck when I bought it. I'm planning on ditching the plastic liner and getting Line-X applied, but feel like I need to do something with the holes first.

Wouldn’t the line x fill in the holes?

They are about 1/2" diameter, I was thinking of maybe getting a D ring to bolt in there to use to strap stuff down. I just figured there might be some creative ideas.

You could have some material welded over the holes.

That seems to be the best way to fix it. I was just worried about it rusting underneath because the heat burning off all the corrosion protection. I could hit it after with some spray paint.

I might see If I can get a body shop to do it, I'm not sure of my abilities with that thin of metal.

I would want them welded up. Then get underneath the truck and sand it prime and paint. Obviously do the same to the top side. Otherwise your D ring idea could be cool.

My '07 had some sort of farm implement / device mounted in the bed by a previous owner, several holes were drilled through the bed mat & bed. There was a little surface rust under the mat, and it was filthy. The Line-X dealer told me that they used a thick metallic tape of some kind to seal the holes from the top before spraying. I'm not exactly sure what they did, but as you can see the underside is in great shape.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
If your not a welder guy, how about some bumper bolts to fill then holes then apply bed liner

    I’m betting you’ll need 3/4 shank and 3” long.

Thanks for all the advice. It looked brand new when I got the truck, I'm betting they didn't like how it towed the 5th wheel and traded it in.

How did it look after you got the Line-X applied, could you see the holes? I'll call them and see what they want, I didn't even think of that.

It looks great, and I can't tell the holes were ever there.

I saw a post somewhere that there is a replacement bed bottom sold, kind of like a sheet of metal siding. You could do something along that lines.
