Per the door sticker, my 08 Sequoia is 1F9 - Slate Metallic and my rig looks more blue than slate. I purchased 1F9 touch up paint from Toyota and it looks grey on my blue rig. I purchased a blue headlamp washer cover from Toyota and it was bright blue (no color code attached to part on www), but turns out it is Nautical Blue (8S6). So now I have a bright blue headlamp washer cover on my blue rig. I'm trying to paint the cover to match but have low confidence because all the OEM touch up paint places that sell aerosol include a color chip that is grey. I figured I'd buy from a place that sells 1F9 and looks blue but I can't seem to find one. Questions are: Is there a backstory to varying OEM paint colors vs. codes and Is there a place you could recommend I purchase from that will sell me the blue version of 1F9 and not the gray version? I'm hesitant to go back to Toyota since the one I purchased from them does not match. THANKS in advance!

What about going to a automotive paint supply house? They have a camera that that when they take a picture of a panel on your vehicle and it tells them the exact mixture to make that color.

Twelve years of everything is not going to look like it used to new! Your paint code is probably correct but age factors into it. Garage kept and loving care for x amount of years is the only thing going to keep that as in new condition/barn find???

@ Jim, yeah that is probably what I'll have to do, but I haven't found one. Plus, I imagine many of these types of places are closed due to the pandemic. I was hoping it would be easier to just order something. I was think ing of the body shop that has fixed me up from a couple accidents.
@ Ken, yeah, I expect things will change over time but when you google 1F9 you get two distinct colors; mine and grey. Looks at my avitar and tell me you think that is or was grey.

If it's a big body shop they may have a camera. If not just google automotive paint supplies in your area.

I think I would try a can of Nautical Blue Metallic (8S9) on the off chance the paint code on the door sticker is in error.

Unless the vehicle was repainted, the only possible conclusion is the assembly plant made an error. That's hard to believe, but I would believe an error in the door sticker before I would believe the vehicle was painted the wrong color at the factory.

I discount the idea that the paint has changed color due to weathering. With clear-coated finishes, the clear coat has to wear off before the base coat has any exposure to the elements.

Call a Toyota parts Dept. Give them the last 8 of you VIN they can verify the paint code I rarely rely on the door tags
Then as someone stated find an auto paint supply store have them mix you up a couple ounces of base coat of the most popular match, there may be several variances of that color but the industry check and has a prime formula and a most popular most of the time it’s the same but can differ. The see if they carry spray maxx rapid clear 2k. It works fantastic for small jobs it a spray can but you break a vial inside the can shake and spray it hardens fast and lays down really nicely

I have the same issue. The factory sticker says 1F9 but the truck is a blue slate metallic. I'm afraid to order the "Slate Metallic" that looks more of a charcoal gray.

I would call around to your local PPG Certified paint stores. Ask them if they are able to color match. A truck that old will likely have a ton of fading.

Automotivetouchup.com can match it to the VIN.
