Will the dealer void my warranty if ??

Will the dealer void my warranty if I show up for my first service with my AFE cold air intake and my Raduim PCV catch can kit ?

No. In the United States, for the manufacturer of a warranted product (in this case, a vehicle) to void or deny warranty coverage of a repair due to the use of an aftermarket part (a Cold Air Inductions, Inc. air filter or intake system), the manufacturer must provide proof (evidence) that the aftermarket part is the cause of the necessary repair. These rights are protected under the Consumer Products Warranty Act of 1975 (also referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act).

A warranty is a guarantee or promise made by a manufacturer, and is included with their product at no charge when it is sold as new. “Extended Warranties” are not warranties at all, since consumers must pay money to receive their benefits. The proper name for an Extended Warranty is a Service Contract. These contracts may contain exclusions or clauses conditioning their coverages, and these may limit the consumer from using certain products (like aftermarket air filters or performance intakes) on their vehicle. Service contracts are not regulated by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and once a consumer signs an agreement, they are bound to the terms of that contract. In the event of a vehicle repair, the presence of an aftermarket part (even if it is unrelated to the repair) could void the contract and force the consumer to pay for the repair themselves.

I personally stay away from CAI's because they really don't do what they CLAIM. Plus, unless your engine has been tuned for that increase in air flow volume, then you have essentially done nothing to improve performance.

Be honest. Have you noticed ANY notable improvement in performance after installing the CAI and Radium catch can? Not sure I buy into all the hype about it.

 

I have oil catch cans on my FJ and on my old Taco. Both would be full of moisture laden oil every 10k. I liked the fact that it wasnt going through my intake anymore. I wont be doing it on my Tundra till it is out of warranty mainly due to the possibility of them blaming it for cam tower leaks.

 

Guess I have been living under a rock, never even heard about this before. I just drive it like I stole it.

I second that a CAI is a waste of money, and nothing more than that. No improvement what so ever and many have even seen a loss of torque on the low end and a severe drop in fuel consumption.

 

They’re only meant for looks really , I mean what they claim is true sort of . If you look at a stock intake you’ll see they already get air from outside the engine compartment so technically it’s already a cold air intake . They used to do a lot back when we had carburetors but not so much after we switched to fuel injection .

 

Years ago I put a CAI on my Tacoma. No change in performance or fuel economy. Pulled it off, sold it on eBay, got all my money back. These things are made for High Performance applications, not your standard factory tuned engines. Save that $ for GAS.

 

I have noticed an Improvement in acceleration with the cold air intake but nothing drastic.The Radium does nothing for performance but does help keep the back of your throttle body clean from all the gunk build up coming from the PCV valve.

I went on Radium’s website and looked at the Catch can. There is a Single PVC kit and a Double PCV & Crankcase Kit. Why did you go with the PVC only kit ?

 

I can’t speak for my tundra and CAI performance improvements, since I had the TRD box installed before I took delivery. That having been said, I put an Injen CAI on my previous truck (2014 Titan), and the increased power was noticeable immediately, to the point that my wife said something on the order of “holy shit...what did you do to that thing?” after she drove it for the first time after install.

I’m not trying to cause a shit storm for my first post but this is a pretty good read from a TACOMAWORLD sticky. Pretty unbelievable what the guy went through.

 

^^^^ This. It’s completely up to the dealer. If they decide warranty work won’t be covered, the MM act isn’t saving you.

I'll be emptying my radium dual catch cans for the first time tomorrow. Ive put on about 6k miles since the install. Will post pics of what it caught tomorrow if anyone is interested.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong.

But I believe that since 2007 model year. All stock air filter are already CAI.

I just changed my air filter to a K&N filter like all my Rigs.

And the best thing you could do is change your mid section of your muffler w/ Dirty Deeds Industry pipe (Bad Ass Muffler) Proven, Reliable, Performance, better mpg, More Torque and just sounds great!

I always take stuff with a grain of salt when you hear one side, but from his link the manufacturer was found wrong and to have violated the MM Act. Yeah it cost him a lot of money, but that sounds more like the manufacturer rep was a dick and was wrong in the end. I’ve never had an issue with Toyota doing warranty work on my modified trucks.
