Looking to get a 27f agm, but there are only two odyssey and/or northstar vendors within 500 miles of me and in the case of warranty issues, I rather get something more readily available. I can find a ton of H6 and H7 agms though. The sizing and cca are very similar. What other size batteries are you guys running that’s not the Tundra specified 24 or 27F?

Closest one is an hour away, unfortunately. I never even heard of them until I google searched for agm. Apparently they aren’t popular here. The 2nd closest is 5.5 hours away haha.

This is why I’m looking for suggestions on other size batteries so I can get an agm from like advance auto or similar....something that I can easily get to in case of a failure

Just order one. Immediately inspect it for damaged posts (ask me know I know).....Northstar is gonna last well past the warranty.
Or you got some crazy draws?

Nothing crazy. I have an aftermarket system but I’m listening at mostly normal listening levels 90% of the time. I daily the truck, but the majority of my drives are less than 10 miles from job to job. I have a charger for wet and agm already. I’ll top off mine and my wife’s batteries ever so often and I noticed mine was at 65% the other day. It charged up but my resting voltage is 12.2-12.4. Truck starts fine but I’m just trying to attack the battery going out before it hits me haha.

I may just make the drive to the batteries plus store and pick up the X2. Hard to beat a 5 year warranty

Odyssey group 34M fits with a neg terminal extension. Barely. It’s overkill for sure but a data point.

AGM is just a type of construction; it doesn't guarantee a battery is of high quality. AGM has gotten a lot of attention on this forum because high quality battery manufacturers started making and selling them (plus group buys). You can buy AGM batteries from crappy battery companies just like you can buy them from Optima or Northstar. My Toyota battery lasted two years. It still had warranty remaining, but my dealer was an hour away. I wasn't screwing with that because the replacement would still be a crappy battery. I went with a Northstar ordered through Amazon, and I had it in a week. If you have a warranty problem, you can hassle with the supplier, but you're still going to need a new battery. Go with good recs from Tundra bros.

If you go to the Interstate web site, put the Tundra in, it will give size SUPER PREMIUM MTZ-34R for their AGM battery.
I think it has a 4 year warranty and costs $267.95

    https://www.interstatebatteries.com/product-search-results

I almost bought one, then are reading the Batteries Plus X@ batteries where made by Northstar with a 5 year warranty, I bought one of those.
    Didn't have a 27F in stock so I bought a 24F.
Batteries Plus website recommends the 24F for Tundra anyway..

    https://www.batteriesplus.com/battery/car-and-truck/toyota/tundra/2014/v8-5.7l-585cca

Price was $309.99, 20% off for ordering and paying online (then picked it up at the store).
With tax $271.45, but got a $30 rebate (that I'm still waiting on), Final price $241.45
They still have the same discount, but not sure about the rebate.
Very happy with it, a tad smaller than OEM 27F.

My factory battery just went dead. Did you have to change any of the wire going to the battery from what was factory?

    No, just a swap.

27F is a little longer than a 24F, same width and height.
I learned on this purchase that the F represents the position of the POS/NEG terminals.
    I had a 27F, bought a 24F, they didn't have the 27F in stock and I didn't want to wait a week.
Not enough difference in the CCAs for me to worry about it.
    Happy with the battery.

Batteries + even swapped it out for me.

I did learn that the rear j hook on the battery bracket hold down was shorter than the front one..
Be aware of that when you put it back on.

Thanks, I ended up buying the 27F and will be waiting a week. Since I am work from home and close to shelter in place orders, I figure we can make it on one car.

I'm looking at the optima yellow AGM D27F battery. Do you know if this will fit with the stock tray and hold down brackets? I wanted the northstar but getting the optima for free so can't pass up. Just wanted to see if I needed to buy anything additional to accommodate the larger battery size, thanks.

I ended up with the northstar 27f and it fits without any issues. I would imagine all 27f size batteries would fit without any modifications, but if you are getting it for free doesn't sound like you have anything to lose

The D27F fits the stock tray. If you need hold downs. $6 at any auto parts store. I don't recall getting new hold downs on mine that was in my 07. Using a Red Top 35 now in my 14.

In November of 2017 my OEM battery died so I put in a X2 24F AGM in my 2015 Tundra PRO. July 31st 2020 it shit the bed too. The 5yr warranty made things super easy, I just walked in and they handed me a replacement. BUT knowing what I know now, I'm not sure that the AGM at ~$300 is worth the money. If its gonna die every 3yrs like the OEM, what am I really gaining? We'll see how long the second one lasts, warranty extends out to the term of the original purchase, so I should be covered until the end of 2022.
Make sure to write the date of purchase on the battery with a paint pen, sure makes it nice to know at a glance how old the battery is.
