Ive had 4 trucks in 3 years. Just keep yours. I miss the first one and the new wears off in 2 months.

Other than sound system if you have your original suspension and wheels/tires remove the after market and swap them to the Platinum. I traded my 17 Limited for a 20 1794 and I love my new truck, especially the comfort of the seats, but I do miss the 17 (trans cooler, no TSS, a key, better sound system). I did take my BA muffler off the 17 and put it on my 20 which was my only mod. On the 20 I have added Bilstein 6112/5160. So basically what I'm getting at is the Platinum will have better seat comfort, LED headlights, push button start, smart key entry and lock, but crappy sound. Take your pick.

In my opinion, keep your SR5 (it is one cool truck) and add the upgraded Katskinz leather to it! Go top of the line on that. You could possibly sell the old seats or make a cool couch out of it? Quarantine project??

Your truck looks awesome first off. Second, I'm not sure I could ever go without leather interior and heated seats again in a vehicle. Its especially nice in road trips, it looks nicer and it stays nicer longer. If you're in a good position right now with everything going on, you could stand to make a great deal. I'm sure they're feeling the pinch like everyone else. I'd poke around and see who really wants to sell, that could make up your mind for you

Theyre only creature comforts. I like my Offroad as is. It has everything I like and its just enough since its less stuff that will break later on in the future. And the cloth seats are less likely to rip than leather cracking.

If you are already thinking this hard about it, the best time to switch was yesterday.

Swap what you can from your current truck into the Platinum, and enjoy the hell out of it. The new Platinums did a good job of future proofing (relative for Toyota Trucks) the 2020’s with proximity entry, push button start, and CarPlay / Android Auto. Would have you set for a few years until the new redesign comes out.

If you are in a position to, do it and don’t look back. Take as many mods off yours as you can and put on the new one.

Keep your SR5. I put Katzkins in my SR5 with heated and cooled option. It’s nice leather and the heat and cool option work well. Just know that the cooled option is not pulling directly from the ac ducts. They pull air from the cab. There is a fan on the bottom and back of the seats. 35A6E90D-27B3-4C4C-9405-08A2ECF51E17.jpgF0F73584-1287-41E7-9A65-393836AF24EB.jpg

    check your local.
Taxable is the amount you actually pay in difference:
    I.E./ ex: trade difference is 8k from a 19 to 2020.
    Here (IA)we pay 5% on that 8k, =$400 tax.
The entire truck value is not taxed usually, may be different in your area. If it is thats jacked, dbl dippin...
That is one reason it may be a good idea- *sometimes- to trade if the bottom line trade number is good.

    Keep what you have.
I've added so many things to my SR5, many things that wouldn't come on a Platinum.
    Would I like a Platinum?
    Sure.
But I think of all the bells and whistles I'd never use.
I added my own leather, seat heaters, exterior LEDS, interior LEDs, mirror puddle light LEDs, tailgate lock, AMP steps, aftermarket HU, amp, Focal door speakers, JL Audio Stealthbox, and many more mods.

Your SR5 will be paid for long before the deal on the platinum.
It is SO nice not to have a truck payment....

I hope to get 5 to 7 more years out of my paid for 2014 before buying another Tundra.

Also that 2020 Platinum Tundra, is virtually the same truck as your 2018 SR5, just with a little more lipstick on it.
I'd wait for the full Tundra overhaul before buying another one.

    Good luck 1LL

How do you use your truck? Do you want to give up probably 400-500 pounds of payload to go to a platinum?

Thanks for all of the replies, especially the donkey punch one . I have been going back and forth with the dealer and they have come down to 47,500 with a 72 month 1.9% APR finance option. The trade was never mentioned because I decided I am going to hang on to my truck. It is going to be paid off pretty soon, and I am really digging those Katzkin Leather seat options a couple of you have mentioned.

Did you do the install yourself? If so how hard was it? Are the fans which cool the seats pretty powerful?

I have a limited premium package crewmax, it has almost same trim as platinum and insurance was cheaper by almost $150 per year.

@cpc0812 , have you had any issues with the ducts for ventilation in the front seats sticking out too far to where you can feel them when you sit in the seats? That's my biggest complaint with them (that they have to be trimmed in length so you don't feel them). Also, your back seats look like real leather, not the 80+% vinyl that they used in my back seats. For what I paid, they should have given me leather carpet. But that's on me, I guess.

I did not do the install. I had the professionals do it and they came out great. The fans have a low, medium, and high setting and they work pretty good. I’m happy with them.
Due to the pattern that I chose the back seats have the same amount of leather as the front seats. The center of my rear seat is vinyl. I do not feel the duct work at all. I’ve even tried to see if I could feel it and can’t. It’s not a cheap upgrade but I’m very happy I did it.

From experience in your situation. DO NOT TRADE. It would feel good at first but then the realization would quickly set in that this is basically the same truck with nicer interior.
