I've owned my 2011 tundra 4wd 5.7 sr5 with 82000 miles for 14 months and it had the 5100 on it already . The ride was ok but seemed like it wasn't smooth ,soft just seemed like a hard ride , so I did some research and decided to purchase the 6112 system and all I can say is WOW the ride is amazing it takes potholes better all and all the ride is top notch would highly recommend the 6112

How is the handling? Better around corners?

Only put about 50 miles on the 6112 just overall handles better around corners, driveways ,bumps on freeways definitely a nice system

Just wondering how long the 5100’s were on there ? Maybe they were worn out , obviously the 6112’s are and upgrade but if they were both brand new I wonder how much of a difference there is ?? Just food for thought .

Still no comparison. I put on a brand new set of 5100s on my last truck and ran them for 30k miles and always thought they were kinda harsh. Went with 6112s our the gate on my new 18’ and the 6112s blow the 5100 out the water as far as comfort on the road.

It make sense after looking at the specs the shock body diameter is almost an inch bigger ! I’m sure the price is different also , definitely a get what you pay for situation.

Maybe but I live in Ohio so they still looked like there not to weathered ,look the 5100 system wasn't bad but like anything the 6112 system is a improved system the stock springs could be wore out for me the 6112 system is better I talked to bilistin out in Poway California when I was thinking of upgrading and he said there's a night and day difference and there is

Oh I agree , when I’m ready I may skip the 5100’s and go straight for the 6112’s with the 5160 remote reservoir rears .

starting to think the same thing.

I have been reading and searching for replacement shocks, initially I was thinking the 5100's would be a good upgrade to the factory shocks. However, starting to think the 6112's may be the better option. I was under the impression that the 6112's were more geared toward long travel off-road type driving.

I tow a 20' ski boat that weighs in around 5,000 lbs with trailer. 6112's good for towing as well? Are they compatible with the factory hitch and rear TRD sway bar?

I went from TRD 4600 to the 6112. Very positive difference! I recommend them

Try Elka shocks. They are based in Canada, might help on price. They are a definite step up one the bilsteins. But considering the exchange rate might be a worth the extra coin.

Thanks, had a look. look to be some pretty bad ass shocks! Their 2.0 IFP set is similar in price to 6612/5160 but with a smaller diameter. Their 2.5 IFP set is similar size to Bilstein, but 2x the price. Interesting, thanks for sharing, I had never hear of Elka before.

I have read that the 6112 & 5160 setup removes the need for the anti sway bars. What's your take?

For those of you that intalled the 6112's on the front and said the handling was much better, what have you done to the rears? GOBUCKEYES, are you still on the 5100's on the rear?
Just wondering if most of you have put the 5100's on the rear or did something different can compare any other setups you've personally experienced.

I'm looking to lift my truck a little and it seems like everyone agrees the 6112's are the way to go between these two if you're okay with the cost so I think that's what I'll do for the front. I'll use the 2.5" lift setting.
I want the rear to come up maybe 1-1.5" or so to try and keep a small amount of rake so it doesn't squat too far when towing. I believe the best way to do that is with some aftermarket shackles and shocks so I'm looking for recommendations for those or if there is a better way I'm open to it. It seems like most do the 5100 shocks or is there another good option? I drive it on dirt roads and trails but nothing crazy, just for hunting and towing trailers.
