Does anyone know the voltage of the shifter indicator (mid floor console shifter) PRNDL lamp? I want to install 3 LED cupholder lamps and get power from the shifter indicator lamp. The LEDs are 12v but not sure if the voltage is stepped down for the shifter lamp. I'd like the cupholder LEDs to come on when the running/head lights are on.

    Thanks!

Good idea for adding the LEDs. Is it easy to tap into wires? I am guessing the lamp is like the footwell lamp and 12V circuit. Do you have a voltmeter?

Yes I the wires should be accessible under the shifter. I do have a voltmeter but interested to know before I take the console apart. I did add OEM LED rings from a higher level Avalon in my 2014 tapping into the shifter lighting and it works great. However, I purchased OEM LED rings so not sure of voltage. OEM tie into the shifter lighting in the higher level so that was a given.

The LED rings I have are not Toyota as there are no OEM cupholder lights for 2020 Tundra. They are 12v so hoping to know before I dig in I’ll be making a soldered heat shrink harness and like to have pieces ready. Prep prep prep.

May just have to dig in and go but don’t know of another "vehicle lights on" 12v line to tap nearby.

So I pulled apart the center shifter console and it’s almost impossible to see/get to wiring heading to the LED and pcba that lights up the shifter positions.

So now I think I have to get (lights on) 12V from the lamps illuminating the USB/GBS panel items. Hopefully those are 12V and I can run a hot wire splice from there.

I had that idea years ago, I needed to tap into a circuit that controlled the dim-able dash lights.
But could never find the right wires to tap into in the shifter, even with the wiring schematic.
I ended up tapping into an unused switch plug in the dash that provided dimmable light for the dash switch..
It was the switch closest to the steering wheel on the right side.
The LEDs I installed in the console, dim down with the dash light dimmer..

Thanks, I may try to tap into that dimmable lamp connection for the dimmable hot. I can pick up a ground under the cup holders. I’ll have to check if the LED light rings tolerate dimming.

The other option I’m considering is to tap into the 12V cig lighter socket in the armrest console. This would have the cup holder and LED lights on whenever the vehicle is on. This might be ok too since it could be dusk and nice to have on before headlights come on. In daylight they wouldn’t be that noticeable.

    Problems I had;
    1. Common ground didn't seem to work for the dash lights.
I had to spend some time with my DDM and the LED to find the right combination.
    2. The LEDs I used, although the lowest wattage I could find, would have been over powering too bright at night.
Even using the dimmer circuit, I had to put resistors inline to dim them down.
Pic was taken before I soldered the resistors in place.

These were the lights I used.
I used the black body with blue light.
They are only 3 lumens and they were way too bright, even connected to the dimmer circuit.

Let us know what you end up using..
    Good luck...

You can always use wife's nail polish to dim the LED or change the color :D I did it for another car.

Nothing for Tundra yet. thinking of putting a LED down low in the center console. LED will be facing the shifter area. I think you should be able to get the power from the cigarette lighter plug inside the box. Can also add one inside the box ... Need some very free time in the summer to try it or maybe forget about it.

Here’s the LED lamps I’m using from accentglowLED (different than single LED light so thought I’d share). They are 12v pucks that sit in the bottom of the cup holders. They are designed for this. I ordered white. They have 2 sided tape but I’m not going to stick in since I’d like them removable for cleaning. For gen3 I ordered (1)3” & (2)2-7/8 pucks per another thread recommendation. I check fit them and they fit perfectly and they blend right in. I’m going to make a harness to plug/unplug the hot and ground so I can remove the shifter console if needed. Here’s some pics. One powered 12v nice soft illumination which should be good down in the cupholders

My 2010 had a single oem Amber cupholder light that was ok but not the greatest. Better than nothing however. Thanks for all the great tips. D6594C80-9C12-4FBB-9368-551D897A46C2.jpg8737F1F4-D140-461C-B731-05E6C8C19289.jpg A56D0ACF-E810-4D37-A88B-6D8B34AB66B7.jpg

You can tap into any switch in the dash just find the illumation wire on the switch mine was a blue wire. I believe. Then ground them to a good source. Should be a simple install. I might do this soon as well. Or go to the parking light fuse with a fuse tap. I did this for my footwell lights.

OK, made some progress today. I pulled off the USB panel and found a connection to the activation/deactivation switch for traction control which comes on when the lights are on and dims with the dash lights. So I got 13.7v from one of the connector sockets and 0-9V varialble when dash dimming 5th pin from left on the connector. So I T-tapped that line and ran the hot to the shifter console (man that was a pain, I can believe how sealed off the center dash is from the shifter console. Toyota blocked off almost every potential to pass a wire through, but lucked out and found a small crevasse to pass the hot dim-able wire through. I picked up a ground from the 12V armrest console.

So I put it together and here's the strange thing. When the dash light is dimmed the cupholder lights get brighter (higher voltage) and vice versa? I had checked all the 5 wires coming to the switch and the hot I picked was the only one that varied voltage when the dimmer was used. Made sense, but how could a line have higher voltage when you dim the dash and lower voltage when the dash lights are brightest? So the cupholder lights dim backwards? They get brightest when dash lights are off? any suggestions appreciated.

The switch I'm tapped into gets brighter and the cupholder lights get dimmer vice versa when activating the dimmer push switch?

Here's a picture at about 5V. The LED rings blend in and look OEM but it would be nice if I could get them to dim when the dash dims instead of get brighter? Any Ideas????
I'll be interested to see what they look like at night. BTW they are wired in parallel. The one closer looks dimmer due to the angle or something. The all are the same brightness.

Do you have a link to the other post you got the idea from? I remember reading that they ordered a 3 1/8 th disc. I was just wondering if the 3" was better than the 3 1/8"th. Thanks.

Here's some pics in the dark of the LED Cupholder lights. They come on when the lights are on and don't really vary much in the dark as the dash lights are dimmed. I'm perfectly happy now with they way they illuminate and will be glad to be able to see where beverages go when it's dark. I also posted a pic of no LED lights which actually make it look brighter than it is. I can hardly see the cupholder area without the LED cupholder lights.

Did you ever resolve the reverse dim issue for these lights?
