Talk me out of trading up to a Platinum

I feel selfish for even asking but I have the itch to get into a Platinum. What do you all think? There seem to be some nice deals on 2020's right now at the right places. I found a 2020 MGM Platinum at at a local dealership marked down to 49,400.

I am currently in a 2018 SR5 and have never experienced a higher trim than the SR5. I have a lot of time and money into mine which is holding me back. I would love to have the Luxuries of a Platinum, but know I wont get a respectable trade in value for my SR5.

Someone punch me in the face and get me out of this daydream please :goingcrazy:

:smack:Don't do it. You can buy a lot of aftermarket parts to make yours just as good as a platinum for less. Plus, your truck looks BA anyways.

Easy to say “don’t do it” looking at how clean your truck is. It will be harder for me to say that when it’s summer time and my swamp butt wants nothing more than some air conditioned seats...Just saying I love my air conditioned seats and use them everyday in the summer.

Oh, I mean :smack: don’t do it! And your truck really does look awesome, nice set-up!

Don’t do it. There is a lean-meanness to the SR5, and you can add a ton of stuff to the platform.

NONE of us will get hosed on resale.

    Your truck is awesome.

Doing it yourself to make you truck into a Platinum may not be your thing. If you're the type of person that wants what they want and will not be happy settling, get the Platinum. If you won't get a "respectable trade in value for my SR5", sell it privately. Yes, a bit of a pain. How bad do you want the Platinum?

I just have to add that when doing mods or restorations, you rarely get your money back.

I’m gonna echo the other comments on your truck, it looks very badass and clean with the lift and tires you have on. I have an SR5 myself and feel it’s well a balanced package. I will say, on my next truck I’ll go for leather but in no means am I looking to ditch my truck today because of it.

Check out some Katskin seat covers if you wanna add them to your current truck. I know they offer them with a heated option, not sure about cool though? My neighbor had a 2014 Denali with cooled seat and even on full blast I wasn’t that impressed. Just my opinion. In CA, it does get hot in the summer months but we don’t have anything near the humidity some places do so perhaps the geography of members plays a role in the value of cooled seats vs others.

Get out of the house and go for a run. I’m in the same boat. I’m just itching to buy something with all this time and nothing to do.

Can you believe I even spent 4 hours cleaning garbage off the street the other day to get out lol.

    Not enough....
    $2,964

If you have 6% sales tax like I have have in PA, this is how much money you'll just be flushing down the toilet unnecessarily. That'll buy a lot of mods to pimp out your SR5 if you want; better audio, leather seats etc.

Well the value of your current truck isn’t going to go up in value so you’ll get the best trade n price sooner rather than later and the platinum isn’t going to go down in price any more so get the platinum !!!
Now if it were me and I wasn’t having any problems with the 2018 I’d save the money for something else as that truck isn’t even broke in yet .

I sold my 2016 SR5 with about 20k miles on it for about the same price I purchased it for.

I also had a lot of aftermarket time, money, and effort into it like you.. I missed it for awhile, but now I have a clean slate to start with.

You could always ask the dealer if they would be willing to allow you to swap some parts, or even work their labor into the deal.

Whenever I trade, I negotiate the deal online and send original pics of my truck of when I bought it new via email.

This way I can take all my shit off and they wouldn’t know like my tires, wheels, tonneau covers, seat covers etc.

I use to get linex all the time because it’s the best. However, since I change all the time and the fact that it’s so expensive, I use a plastic drop liner and just take that out too.

My experience is that they don't care about your aftermarket parts. They will give you the same price with or without them. It doesn't matter if they see them and you take them off later, or if you ask them if you can remove them.. The sales guys are typically clueless and don't give a crap anyway.

Good point, I have already upgraded the audio in it also which in my opinion is one of the best mods you can do to these trucks.

I want to check those katskin's out. Is the leather pretty plush ?

I wish I could do an aftermarket cooled seat option. The heat i can take or leave, but the cooled seats are awesome. My wifes explorer has them.

Thanks for the input and talking me away from the ledge.

I am keeping the SR5. Too much time, blood, and sweat into it. Finally got it the way I want it and was contemplating trading for a bone stock platinum.

    WTF was i thinking?????

I don't have them but I do know that the katzkins do have a heated and cooled option. It is called degreez or something similar to that.

I have a 2020 SR5 that I've done many of the Platinum upgrades on (Katzkins with heated/ventilated seats, working on power fold mirrors, leather steering wheel), and I WISH that I would have bought a Platinum instead. I didn't even think to look at them when I bought my truck. Wish that I had. Your truck is a couple of years old, so in addition to the Platinum features (upgraded leather, factory heated/ventilated seats, power fold mirrors, memory driver's seat, power passenger seat, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc.), you will also benefit from push button start, larger screen, Apple CarPlay, keyless entry/exit...

    I'm a bad influence, I know...

I don’t have Katskins in my truck, but my buddy has them in his F150 and they’re very close to/if not better than factory leather.

I have them, and am happy with them for the most part. My issues are that they used vinyl for almost the entire rear seats. The seat surfaces (bottom and back) are leather in the front seats. I had an upholstery shop get some matching leather from Katzkins and replace the vinyl front head rests with leather, as well as do the door panels and front center arm rest. For what I paid for them, including the ridiculous amount that I paid for install, I should have just bought a Platinum.

Also, the little plastic ducts that they use for the Degreez system end up having to be trimmed down by the installer, because otherwise, you can feel them in your butt and back. I need to take my truck back to the installer because the duct for the driver's seat bottom is still protruding when I adjust the seat bottom down all the way. Annoying.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Id keep the truck you got to save time and money.

Future is uncertain as of today, but optimistic for the future.

If you got all the stock parts to put back on then the 18 great.

Put those parts on the new 20 truck. Seams like a lot of work just to jump up to platinum.

    Don’t lol !!! It’s the same shit.

The novelty wears off fast and the only thing left are the payments.

Use whatever cash you got buying other toys. No sense buying same thing again.

KEEP your current ride. I bought mine for the reason everyone buys Toyota: Quality and reliability. You've spent money to personalize your ride and, probably - as I do, consider it a part of the family. If major changes/ style were offered, then consider it, but, My SR5 is was perfect in 2016 and still perfect now. I especially like the no payment feel! Just my opinion.
