About to purchase my first Tundra and it seems like the 1st gens are bulletproof - with the right maintenance. The vehicle has 200k miles, but the service history is immaculate (see for yourself; attached).

I took some photos of the frame today, looking for rust. And although covered in dirt, I couldn't find anything that stood out in particular. However I figured I would not know what to look for hence this thread.

From the images attached, what do y'all think? Does anything stand out?

Looks pretty clean and I love that blue color. Rare. A service record is always awesome to have and tells you the PO took care of what he had.

None, really. Just tires and wheels.
Looks good, man. Spend $60 or $75 to have a trustworthy mechanic give it a once over. That is money well spent.

Check your lower ball joints. Also, check your brake lines. They can look good and still be ready to blow. Check especially where they meet the rear brake proportioning valve (driver side, tucked into frame rail, just ahead of rear axle). You'll know you have found it when you find something you've never seen before and has three brake lines coming off of it. Two from the front, and one going to a union over the pumpkin if I recall correctly. Also, follow the brake lines forward from that valve, towards the engine bay. Tucked into the driver side frame rail will be another two unions. Sort of near the middle of the drivers driver's door.

Honestly though, I expect your brake lines will be good. But at 200k it's well worth it and takes 2 minutes to check.

The service records indicate that those may be the original lower ball joints. I have read those are a weak point.

Have the mechanic thoroughly check the frame, too. They are definitely prone to rust. Yours does look very good, though. God I hate Michigan sometimes:(

Looks like a great truck, though. I'm jealous. Snatch it up if they aren't charging a ton. You won't regret it.

That truck looks like it's in fantastic condition.

That’s a pretty clean truck , when did you go look at it because if it was yesterday maybe they’re just playing a cruel April fools joke .

Indeed. Bluesteel Mica (Metallic), a rare but attractive color. Bonus points for the service records.

You didn't say the price, so I don't know how good of a deal that is....but if the price is right I would snap that up pronto...looks great and that's a fairly extensive service history...two dealer timing belt changes and and LBJs done at 27K miles probably a recall...so you might want to replace those sooner rather than later. I also noticed it has KYB Gas-A-Justs, so the shocks were replaced at some point. Nice find!

Agreed...should be a good find for the right price. Just get those LBJs done ASAP if you pick it up.
