My brother's first car was a 1994 Pontiac Sun Runner (or Rum Runner :D). He liked the removable top and that he could stand inside the engine bay to work on it but I don't think he was a fan of the 3 speed automatic.

65 Plymouth Belvedere 4dr, bought for $75, drove it for about a month then sold it for the engine, 383 Magnum. Next up was a 80 Chevette that got me through high school

It was this bad motor scooter right here....

I really can't complain, though. Bought it with about 60K on it...and crashed it (hit an oil slick going around a curve at 40MPH) at 175K.

List of issues I had with it:

    - alternator replaced 2x (once due to new sound system)
    - spark plugs/wires

That's it. I'm not the biggest fan of GM, but that car did me right.

I learned how to drive in a '76 Lincoln Towncar, even took my drivers test in it. I still can ace parallel parking.
Dad put me in a '66 Chrysler New Yorker. Crying shame I treated that car the way I did.

Just like this one with the rich corinthian leather.
I still had that car when I started getting into pickup trucks. Sold it for $400 with a cracked block. Never had another Mopar

My first was a 77 Malibu Classic, handed down to me from my mother. The car pictured below is the car mom purchased to replace her Malibu. I miss the Malibu but I beat it very badly and it wasn't long for the world in my care. The Monte however.. an heirloom parked safely in my garage! Thanks mom:)

I also drove my dads Town Cars in the mid to late 70's... Today's Tundra is about the same size as the '76 Town Car.

Ha! My first car was a 1966 red Mustang GT but it didn't have the original 289, someone had put in a 1971 302. 4 on the floor, pony interior, glass packs, loud as all get out.

My dad was an avid German car guy. Growing up, all our cars were German. When I told him I wanted an old Mustang, I was surprised he was ok with that. He did tell me that an old Mustang was going to be different than the cars our family owned, but that he'd help me find a good one. We started out looking at fastbacks, but they were so darn expensive, about twice as much as a coupe. We must have looked for 3-4 months for a decent mustang in my budget ($2200). Every mustang we looked at needed lots of work. I was about to give up on finding a mustang, but my dad found one more classified ad and he said we should go look at. I grew up in a military town with lots of Army and Air Force people. Many of these military folks had to leave town, transfer, etc. and this particular mustang just happened to be owned by an Army guy who had to leave/transfer out of town. He had completely redone the interior so it was very nice. The body was straight but the red paint was in poor condition, it was very faded. I drove the car and it drives well, but the brakes needed some work. I think the seller wanted $2500 for it and when we offered $2200 he said ok.

I put a little work into that car like giving it a basic tune up, fixing the brakes, putting new tires on it and then buffing out the oxidation in the paint. Actually, I couldn't buff it out, I hired a detail shop to do it and when I got it back, the paint look soooo much better, it look 100% better, I was amazed, best $ I spent on that car ($80?). I drove the car all through HS but I didn't take it to college, I left it at home with the plan to sell it and buy something better for college life. Anyhow, that's another story...

I had a friend who had one of these! Incredible little car, we tried and tried to kill it but it just kept driving. We literally tried to jump the little car over a big road bump and we bottomed it out in the front but it just kept on going...

I couldn't find a picture of mine, but it looked just like this one I found online. In 1975, with Dad's help (co-sign), I bought a 1966 Buick Skylark Gran Sport for $600.00. Red with white bucket seats. It was immaculate. I was 151966_buick_skylark_gran_sport_72a4d3305d.jpg 1966_buick_skylark_gran_sport_13a32128e9 (2).jpg4 speed manual on the floor with tachometer. 401 cubic inch, 4 barrel carburetor, positive traction.

I bought it in 1976, a few months before my 16th birthday and it was already three colors of primer. I spent my weekends sanding the primer off and prepping it for paint and got it painted by late spring of 1977 before I got my drivers license

My first was a 64 VW that was painted purple. My brother bought right when he got out of the Navy while he looked for the 442. When he found the 442 he traded the car to me for my 10 speed Schwinn. I was 15 at the time and could only mess with it in the driveway. Had a lot of fun in that bug.
