Almost 18 years ago I was just about to wrap up the 1st summer working for my dad. I as usually was sleeping in the van as we drove home after a long day doing whatever we did that day, when he wakes me up and said an old car was behind us and he slowed down so I could see it. I was, after all 14 and I enjoyed automotive anything for as long as i cam rememmber. The car was white and I had never seen any thing like it. My dad said it was a Nova, I had never heard of such before that day. So as the car passed us, I was drooling and I saw the For Sale placard in the rear window. I scrambled for a pen and scribbled the number on my hand. I was wide eyed and begged my dad to use his phone so I could call and get the info. After some negotiations between my dad and I and then my dad and the seller, we bought the car within 2 weeks of that day! He drove it home (an hour away from where we lived at the time) and I had a grin for months as mom followed us in my new, car that's 20 years older than I am!

We tinkered on it for the next year as I was marking down the days till I got to drive it on my own. Drove that car all through high school and as life goes gas went up and the distance to work got farther from home. After getting married and taking care of life's other priorities the car just sat and was neglected for way too long, but was never sold! The wife and I had talked about getting the car to our house for many years, however dad and I had planned to restore it. Well plans changed when God called my father home last year. Thus we have made the arrangements to move the car and well ladies and gentlemen I ramble no more, feast your eyes on my 1st car!

Bit to clean and few odds and ends she'll roar once again. Plan this time is to get her running and slowly but surely get her pretty again but she will never sit like she has the last decade!!

Thanks for reading my long post and stick around as updates will follow!!

I paid close attention to my dad and the stories he'd tell of his cars gone long before I got here, and I knew I had to keep it no matter what.

Thanks Jim, we made the move this past Saturday and I have spent every free moment cleaning that car. Polished all the chrome and trim yesterday and today after working full shifts. Hand bathed her in the garage Saturday afternoon and 11 hours Sunday. Best way to kill the quarantine IMO

That's awesome Travis. You'll have her back to her former glory in no time.

My first car was a 1975 Ford Mustang II. Yeah, the really ugly body style. Bought it for $100 from an old man who thought the engine was blown because of how rough it ran. Got it home and discovered that in it's 130,000 miles it had never had the spark plugs changed, so I put in a new set of plugs, cap and rotor and it ran like top. It had the 302 cid engine. A few months after getting my license, I wrecked it racing home from high school with a buddy. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of it. It was the early 90s and everyone didn't have a camera in their pocket then.

My first car was a black, 1951 Ford, 4 door sedan. Bought it from my Dad. It got me all through high school. It was a flat head eight cylinder that ran very well. Would start right up in zero degree weather. On those days the head lamp dimmer switch (on the floor) would freeze up. Had to tap my foot several times to get it to activate.

Root beer brown Ford Pinto, don’t remember the year. Bought it for $500 bucks in 1982. It was in perfect condition, till I got sideswiped by a BMW coming in opposite direction, knocking me sideways and into a ditch. I still do not know how it didn’t roll.

1980 Datsun pickup truck. Oh yeah. Rust on 4 wheels. You could lift up the passenger side floor mat and see the road. Complete with Earl Scheib paint job and enough Bondo to fill a freighter. Handed it down to my brother, who drove it awhile and eventually sold it for $100. Saw it driving around town 2 years later. Thing just refused to die.

My first car was a 1986 K10 pickup. After 27 years I still have it like your I remember my dad always talking about how he wished he had kept his first car. All the way through school I mowed yards and worked for my dad in the summers so I could buy that truck when I turned 16. MVIMG_20191009_074337.jpg

Mine was a 1969 Pontiac Tempest that looked like this, it had an overhead Cam straight 6 with a 2 speed automatic. I have owned more than 60 vehicles since the Tempest, and it's one of the few that I would like back.

2006 Chevy Malibu maxx I inherited from my grandmother when she passed. It wasn't the first vehicle that I had ever driven, but it was the first car that was mine. I drove that car for 3 months, and totalled it. I hit a deer on the drivers side headlight, deployed every airbag that thing had, and that was all she wrote.

After that I was given my Tundra which is my daily, and will continue to run as long as I have a say in the matter.

The first car I ever purchased was a 2014 Chevy Cruze. Decent little car. I am young, and made a typical mistake. I put it in my girlfriend, and my names.

She cheated on me with her 1st cousin, and no I am not making this up. We were in Virginia visiting her family for 2018 Christmas. I found out shortly after our anniversary cruise I paid for. That was that for her, and I. 6 years of friendship before 2 years of dating. You think you know a person.

I saw no reason to take her to court over a car, and leave her without any sort of transport. So I paid it off, and signed it over before she could get into an accident in which I would have legal ties to a vehicle I didn't even have.

    Lesson learned.

My first vehicle was my grandpa’s 89 Silverado that he gave me in 1993. I drove it until 2003. Brought my first child home from the hospital in it, and the only pic I have of it is from my wedding day. I miss that truck and my grandpa very much.

Damn dude 1st cousin? That's some straight up West Virginia/ Hills Have Eyes sh*t lol. Well, at least she was your girlfriend and not your wife. I would have still taken the cruise though and would have definitely left her without transportation because she didn't deserve a god damn minute or penny of your time or money.

That's how I felt about it, but I didn't feel like fighting in court over a $5,000 car with a rebuilt title. I just wanted to be done, and home with my parents again.

When we got together she was living in a trailer with her sister (theres nothing wrong with that. Imo)

This trailer however had no interior walls, sheets hung for curtains, no A/C, no heat, most of the electrical was shot, and they had 7 dogs inside with them. They didn't bother to clean any of the dogshit up because neither one felt like the other was doing their part.

Guess I should have taken that as a sign of what was to come. I spent the next 2 years working 10 hour shifts with a 2 hour round trip cooking, cleaning, laundry, and taking care of her when I was not at work so she could focus on nursing school.

She was in her final year when I left, and she flunked out so bad that the state of Kentucky barred her from returning to the program at any college in the state.

Looking back now I would almost guarantee that the cousin incident was not the only time. Hell, I was gone literally 12 hours out of the day at least.

Not my car pictured, but the exact same model, color etc. A 1991 accord ex. Had a lot of great memories in that car throughout high school and the first half of college. Really gave me my love for honda cars. I got it with 125k miles and drove it until it had 225k. We sold it to my uncle and he literally drove it until the wheels fell off lol. I think it had about 350k miles when he had to get rid of it. Great car.

Karma my man. It's always a shitty situation to get cheated on and I'm sure most of us have felt that pain at one point or another. It is best to just completely cut it off and never have contact with them again.

She recently called me, and I asked her if everything was okay first thing. She said she didn't need anything so I hung up.

    Karma.

That's enough about that. Back to cars.

My first car was a Plymouth Valiant with 3 on the tree and a slant 6. Paid $300. I'm sure it is long crushed. The love of my life is the car I purchased in 1976, a 1969 Corvette. Paid $1600. I still have it.

BTW: I'm going to be 66 and like to track her one more time. Unfortunately it have become over $1000 for the weekend. Lime Rock would be perfect. I miss Bridgehampton. This is at NJMS.

That would be very nice to see that back out on the track! I used to run my Nova at the local 1/8th mile drag strip and came across a guy and his son with a 66 four-door Nova. It was always fun to see the two white 4-door Novas racing against each other. We were equally matched except for the Transmissions he was running a 3-speed while I was running the 2-speed Powerglide
