My wife got me an Amp and 10” subwoofer for Christmas and I am getting ready to toss it in.. I have ordered the Toyota Tundra Add A Subwoofer Plug and Play Harness from taco tunes. Just wondering if anyone has done this yet, I am not the best with auto install.
From what I understand you still keep your stock amp under the passenger seat and the harness plugs into it and your new amp.

    Harness I ordered..
    Thanks!

Speaking from experience, the stock head will be the downfall of the system even after adding an amp and sub. I battled for months trying to make it sound right until I changed the head unit and finally got it to sound right.

That’s what I was afraid of... I have changed the dash speakers out so the door speakers will be next. I really don’t want to changed the head unit so I hope I can live with the way it turns out.

Is it a Taco Tunes amp? You will not keep the factory amp. Did she get you a shallow box sub? If not it will not fit behind the seat. After months of thinking about it I went with Tac Tunes amp. With the others you will need a LOC. Line out converter. Big improvement in sound with the Taco Tunes amp and Rockford sub. You will also need an amp wiring kit. Not sure what harness you got from Taco Tunes. Is it just for sub? You will also need to upgrade door speakers. I went with Infonity Kappas. Just did fronts for now. I never have passengers. In fact my rear seats are always up.

Yes she bought me a sub and amp kit. The box will fit behind the seat of the crew max. It’s not from taco tunes. Just my plug and play harness is for adding an amp.
Do you have links to the door speakers you put in?

I have read several posts on this forum condemning the factory HU. I have worked with 4 of them in detail ......in a '17 Rav4, 2 T4R's... one of which is an '18 companion-ed with my '17 Tundra. Now I'm not talking about the bells and whistles like bluetooth and some of the other apps. I don't use this stuff and cannot comment on how good or bad they are. But for music from XM, USB, CD and FM I have found the factory HU to be quite good. Now the speakers and factory amp is another story. These 4 HU's produced a clean full spectrum signal but were low in power hence the need for an amp and good speakers that would handle the amps power.

The upgrades I did were using 5 channel amps which require a bit more care in matching up the system as a whole. You are talking about just adding a sub and amp using the ********* harness made for that purpose. I believe you will be just fine adding the sub to your factory system and will be pleased with the results. You will need a line out converter unless the amp you use has high level inputs.

Be warned though, you will get the bug to upgrade to a 5 channel amp and better speakers before long!

What is this “line out converter” you speak of? And what does it do.... thanks.

It will take the signal off the lines provided by the harness and give you a low level input for your amp via RCA connectors. Not expensive......$10 - $12. I have a few other posts on this audio/video page if you want to look them up.

It will all depend on what you consider good sound quality. If you're an audio audiophile, you will want more. Adding the amp and speakers will definitely improve the sound quality and volume, but in the end, a head unit upgrade will liven things up. My DC did not come with JBL or NAV, so the head unit upgrade was a win win for me as I got NAV, DVD and the lines that show wheel positions when reversing.

If you're interested in a Line Out Converter, I have an Audio Control LC7i I'm willing to let go for a good price.

No link but got them onCrutchfield. Infinfinty Kappa 60 6.5s components. Came with wire and door adapters. If you have a Taco Tunes amp you wont need a LOC. This is why I went with Taco Tunes. You will need their amp harness.
