Is it me or do these look like the same truck? At least the front ends look really similar. Screen Shot 2020-03-30 at 10.11.38 AM.jpg

Lol. Just out of curiosity because of your statement I looked up definition of a "truck." hmmmm.

not necessarily bashing the ridgeline but the ranger is an actual frame on body truck with rear wheel drive and selectable 4hi-4low. that's all I meant.

Haha! We are all clear on the definition of a truck and what each vehicle here actually is....... but I have to agree with OP.... they aren't identical no... but they are similar.

Oh yeah... Couldn't agree more. It was funny because I thought a truck would describe an open bed, weight class, or whatever. I was surprised that most definitions didn't. By some of those dictionary entries I saw, my wife's Kia Sorrento would qualify. I think the only distinguishing characteristic was the hauling of goods rather than people. For S&G's.

If those two vehicles look like the same truck, then every truck on the market would look like the same truck. Grill is different shape, headlights are different shape... everything is different. Unless you go very broad-brushed - They both have a grill, both have lights, both have 4 doors; yes, they look the same.

The Ranger to me almost looks closer to the Tacoma (shape of the headlights, anyway).

As to the discussion of what's a truck or not: my cousin is a consultant/ contractor in the oil patch. He hauls about 500 lbs of tools and drives several hundred kilometers a day (90,000 or so a year). He first got himself a Duramax Colorado for a work truck. Then, when he got fed up with the shitty 8 speed, he switched to a Ridgeline. However, he also has a Powerstroke F-350 as his personal vehicle for when he needs more truck (like towing his giant travel trailer to the mountains).

You guys kill me. Always comparing vehicles saying they look like each other. Bashing other trucks cause they look similar. Who cares. A vehicle is a vehicle. If you don’t like it. Don’t buy it.
I personally think the ridgeline is an excellent option for someone who doesn’t need a full-size truck. You get the reliability of Honda and a good amount of utility.
Not everyone needs a truck so they can feel like a man.

The Ridgeline is a car for the occasional trip to Home Depot. The Ranger is a midsize pickup.

The only thing I've noticed on trucks is the Big 3 all seem to have added the notch in the bottom corner of the rear window that the Nissan Frontier introduced in 2004.

Agreed. Actually nothing wrong with the Ridgeline. I will drive one any day; probably even before driving a Ranger. But then, I don't have the compensation insecurities that some people on this forum has. If a Ridgeline gets me where I need to go and can load what I need to load, then I will drive it; which is about 80% of my trips. The other 20% is off-road on construction sites where I need the ground clearance and the Ridgeline will be too low; hence the need for the Tundra.

???? I had to re-read all the comments. All I said was that they looked similar. Like, as in, almost the same designer. I didn't take any of the responses as Honda bashing at all. Maybe I'm reading it differently.

I always thought, bang for the buck, a Honda Element would be a great option. There is a TON of room on the inside for mountain bikes, car camping, and what not while getting pretty good mileage and reliability.

That happens on threads like this. Everyone reads into it and then the next guy responds to that comment and the next one on that comment.... and then the whole thing is derailed.

When I don't need a truck, or I don't need to feel like a man, my other car is a Honda Insight. Goes 3X further than the Tundra, and at least 2X further than the Ridgeline, on a single gallon of gas. :D

Hondas tend to be reliable and have lots of interior space, though they also have that thing Toyota tried for a few years where they charge more for their vehicles because they know how good they are.

LOL, I hear you on that. I filled up my wife's Prius yesterday - $19 for a full tank (9 gallons) and she will probably get more miles out of that than I would get out of my 38 gallon tank. The car is also very comfortable to drive (it is the Prius V - kind of a station wagon version with a higher roof line) I will drive that any day.
