I leave mine on all the time. I've done the off and on and noticed no change to fuel use, nor did I have somewhere to place it when off other than my back yard, so it was as exposed to the seasons anyway.
Being a 4man and weighing about 200lbs, leaving it on has been the best choice for us.

What do you use if anything to prevent potential theft of the RTT?

Nothing at all to be honest. Campsites are safe and if in town someone wants to try it, bless their soul for the attempt lol.

I bought some security nuts for mine to help deter the less motivated wannabe thieves.

Mine mount differently but this is a decent design.
Those metal strips definitely bend and I would see over time that being more of an issue than theft itself.

    Changing gears...

I did a 40% delete over the last week for a sleeping platform for the pup. I need to cut the angle for the latch but it will have storage for my bungees and NOCO. Used the seat bolt down points to mount it.

I will take a pic when done but here’s the start earlier this week:
    0829D81C-687D-4D3B-98DB-54BE7FE768D5.jpg

I need to decide if I’m going to put a finish on it.

Also the fact that most weigh 100+ lbs and are super awkward to deal with helps plus unless they thieves pull up in a truck or van it would be hard to get away.

I had a RTT on for over 3 years with my 4Runner. No added security and it was never touched.

I think it just adds another step of opening the swing out before the tailgate.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
If you don’t need to open your tailgate much then it’s a non-issue. I have a tonneau so I need to open the tailgate every time to access the bed. For me to open the bed I have to open the Rigd tire carrier; which involves partially unlatching, removing the safety pin, thrn unlatching completely to open. Very minor con for a cool product D6083E0C-2926-4A78-9D3F-2C8AD9C89BEE.jpg
