Tailgate got nailed dragging an Excursion out of the mud and he didn’t stop fast enough.

Is there any particular reason why crew cab tailgates are nonexistent to find on the Internet anywhere?

I would guess it has less to do with the crew cab part of it, and more to do with the age of the vehicle. A lot of parts are discontinued or at least more rare after the 10 year mark.

Quite contrary, I can find suppliers for days with replacements for single cab and access cab. Apparently, the bed is more shallow than a crew cab, therefor different tailgate sizes. I cannot find one for a crew cab to save my life.

Really? They did different depths? How weird. Learn something new every day.

Just a suggestion to modify your search to "double cab" versus crew cab, no such nomenclature on the first gen. Subtle, but might make a difference in your search. And you are correct about the bed depth difference.
