2008 Sequoia platinum build- Tundra friendly mods

It should fit...besides the 1" gap at the bottom due to the difference in bumpers between the tundras and sequoias.

The replica knob was devoid of the "TRD" logo, so I decided to make one.

 

GD is there anything you can't do?! How'd you do that one??

 

. Vinyl cutter, Corel draw, and about 5 cents worth of vinyl. It really pays to have a vinyl cutter. I have done boat/jetski decals, car decals/emblems, and signs over the years.

 

I finally had time and good weather to tint the taillight. I like it. Dont get up close to it though, not the best quality tint job. First timer.
It needs a wash, badly.

They look good. Don't ask me for a closeup either....

 

Got the steering wheel cover sowed up. Went with red to match the trd shift knob and the cluster needles. I like it.

Also tinted the 2 bumper red reflector. Match well with the tinted taillight.

 

Love the red stitching Brandon, wish I went that route! It sure took a long time to get the cover...must be from CV. I also tinted those reflectors awhile ago, they match much better that way.

Yeah. With everything going on, it sux. But, i am pleased with the result. Plus i wanted to protect the original cover. Waited a long while now the truck is at near 13k. I also swapped out the morimoto 35w hid ballast for hylux 45w ballast. This should be interesting to see how much more light output it produce.

 

Ive been thinking about getting one of these. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Plus, I did some red piping in the interior (wheel included)that I'm still on the fence about. Some days I get in the truck and like it...other days I sorta shrug my shoulders. I'll post some pics in a little while. Did you buy one of those steering wheel emblems?

 

I'd love to see the pics. I didn't purchase the emblem since I'm thinking of painting mine. Lately, I've been tied up w/ replacing the failed power mirrors, replaced chrome w/ black door handles, and rushed tinting of the brake lights w/ the tint you purchased. Mine don't look as good as yours and Brandon's - I botched the outer left real bad and used the good parts of the botched tint to cover the circles at the bottom and the white 3rd break light. I have to purchase another roll and give it another try when it isn't 40F outside. I would love to know the strategy you and Brandon used to do the outer lights. Did you start w/ the flatter surface of the back of the light or the curved surface of the side of the light. I tried both ways and failed miserably, but then again it was cold out.

 

I started with the outter lamp first. Stick the film from the back surface and pull toward the front of the car. Heat and stretch. Tedious for sure. The inner lamp is much easier. Surface is almost flat. Dont have to stretch the film much. I used a heat gun on low and spread the heat. Dont focus on one spot too much, it will melt the film. Hair dryer would probably work better. If any bubble(s) trapped after you finish, get a small sewing needle and pop it, lightly heat and press in. Bubbles gone and you wont notice the pin hole.

 

Thanks Brandon. Bought a heat gun for this 'job' to keep from sneaking the Mrs' hairdryer. I'll buy another roll and try your tips on a warmer day. I like the idea of popping the bubble w/ the needle! Thx!

 

I did mine a little bit different. I started on the flat surface of the side of the outer light (sort of in the middle) and made an "anchor point in which to pull from. Then, heat the film (one side of the anchor point at a time) and pull and stretch (2 hands placed on the corners and pull out and apart). The goal it to place the majority of each run in 1 movement to limit the glue lines from repositioning and/or stopping. Then, do the other side of the anchor. Really, you shouldn't be listening to me or Brandon. Check out CJwraps on youtube. He has some great videos that are VERY informative. I believe he even has a video on this tinted vinyl.

 

Here are the pics of the red trim. You just push it in the gaps.....atleast that is what the directions say. In reality, you glue I in the gaps and cuss a lot. Let me know what ya'll think. The last 2 pics are of the "sequoia" license plate cover with the same treatment between the white and black. The red does a great job at separating the 2 gray colors in the interior.

 

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I watched a bunch of videos by CJwraps and he made it look too easy. I shouldn't of been so cocky to do it on a cold day when CJ emphasized repeatedly that you need warmth.

 

Hmmmmmmmmmm. You know I like the red accents/subtle touches (Even though I only have the calipers at the moment). I love it on the outside above the plate. Very nice. It also looks very good on the inside. Just not sure if it would be for me. I can definitely see why your are on and off from day to day. I think that is how I would be. What does the misses say? Enough to sway you either way? My flip-floppedness would drive everybody nuts in my house.

 

My wife can't roll her eyes enough at my new passion with modding my truck. She actually likes the outside "sequoia" though. I like it more often then not, so I'll keep it. Plus, it does make the truck feel more modern.

 

Hey Beau. Just got the grill you purchased and broke the two outside clips, got them replaced, and broke one of them. Question to you is what order did you follow in reinstalling the grill? Did you push in the 7 clips first then bolt it on or bolt in on first then push in/connect the clips? I ask because I tried to push in the clips first and that is when I broke one of the new (outside) clips. When I was finished cursing I decided to line up the clips but bolt the grill on first. Once finished I tried to push in all the clips, but I could not get any of them to click. What am I missing? TIA!!

 

I put the bolts in first and then pushed in the clips. Make sure that the new gasket/seal that separates the grill and hood is on properly and not impeding on pushing the grill clips in. Also, the female parts may be bad which would result in not being able to “clip” the pins. Hope this helps

 

Thanks for the guidance. It's the path I chose and now I'm thinking those little yellow clips (the females) might be the reason its not clicking in. Ug, do I pull it off and purchase the clips or roll with it the way it is? I guess a bit of time will tell. You'll have to check out my new build page if you want to see the pics. I'll try to get them up in a bit.

 

Yeah man, I look forward to seeing the pics. As far as the clips, honestly at first all of my clips were broken and I rolled with it for awhile. The bolts held it in fine. Its really up to you on how you want to approach it at this point. If it was me and the rubber piece is bridging the gap between the hood and grill, I’d leave it be. Ymmv though.

 

Yeah, that's what I'm kinda thinking for now. If I color match I'll replace all the female clips.

 

By chance could you list a picture of the broken clip piece? I’ve yet to do mine

 

Did you end up getting al ink to this site? The remote start is something I would love to have
