Just an update, I went the same path with the Allan springs and installed them today. I have a pro that I added an ARE Z shell and decked system and it had sag. With the new springs it raised it exactly an inch just like the guys at Allan said it would.

No. I’m gonna see how it settles after some time to see if I want to lift it more or not. When I had them build the springs I told them I wanted 1” of lift and gave them my approximate payload.

The coachbuilder shackles ride so much smoother than OE, the 1 inch lift is worth it even if you don’t want it

Shackles seem like the least expensive and most effective for the rear sag. But I just can’t get over the fact that if the truck is raised like at an auto shop or off-roading, then the leaf pack will hit the exhaust. The reason I haven’t installed them and always reminded when I look my truck rear sag.

.62 inch of lift isn’t too noticeable. I cut my tailpipe off though so I don't know how close that would have been

What I did to get rid of my squat because I have quite a bit of permanent weight in the back, I went with the Icon Progressive AAL's. They did the trick and are a good buy in my opinion

My setup is similar to a pro and with my FWC it now squats and it sits directly on the Timbrens all the time. I’m looking to switch to a load supported by the leaf springs not a bump stop approach.
Kinda putting three price point options on the table.

Alcan spring replacement and toytec shackle

    dobinsons/OME/icon replacement and toytec shackle

Custom leaf spring created from cutting down another oem set (I have a friend who did this for his tundra and he’s willing to do it for mine) and toytec shackle.

Then would consider a rear sway bar if handling characteristics were still wanting.
Hoping to sell the Timbren after this upgrade.

My load consists of 1,000lb camper full time and then loading up my wife and toddler for the weekends with all our camping gear.

    Thanks for any insight provided.

I also have a constant static load of around 1100lb. For short term, I used icons helper packs. Toytec and Deaver both gave me very bad recommendations when I was doing research, which I did for about 2 years. Alcan fabricated custom leaf sets that compensate for the fact that I have about 300 more pounds on the driver side than the passenger side. Recommend Alcan in the strongest way.
The big concern I’d have about doing that back yard custom set up, is the lack of engineering. You might hit it perfectly or you could end up too stiff or still a bit saggy. I almost went that route myself.

I put in for a quote. Looks like alcan would be 820+200 shipping. Lots of good reviews on this site, but google has a lot of dissatisfied reviews that have a common tune.

the poly bushings are stiffer than the oe rubber and they don’t have teeth cut into the side of them (have to see the oe insides to view).

the idea is that the coachbuilder shackle is stronger and has better bushings, so it operates smoother and allows the spring to flex more naturally

hopefully this helps get the right springs. Thinking 1” lift and weight help. Alcan comes with polybushings. I may not change shackle because I have 35” tire in stock location.

You guys are overthinking this issue. The TRD PRO by design sits VERY level, actually too level. The easiest and cheapest way to fix the problem is by using taller shackles. This way you maintain the factory ride, and pick the ass up from 1-3 inches, depending on your needs. I went with Pro Form Fab +1.5 shackles for towing my boat. Perfect solution, rides great, looks great, tows great, nothing to wear out, no issues whatsoever. For less than $100 my PRO sits exactly how I wanted to, about 1.5" higher in the rear. BOOM, easy fix.

Except for the fact that if you add a shell and some other weight in the bed the truck will sag and flatten the springs. At that point shackles aren’t gonna do the job. A few of us got the springs built to carry the added payload that the stock (weak) Toyota spring can’t handle.

Yes, note my constant load. Shackles aren’t gonna help with that.
I do agree though for stock loads shackles are the easiest way to slightly lift the rear of the truck with few compromises (mostly interference issues, such as certain exhaust systems and a 35” spare tire can definitely get in the way of the shackles with beefy dimensions (CB/aluminum).
I also agree I am probably overthinking it.

Wanted to update. With the guidance of my FWC dealer, they do not believe I have an issue that requires a custom solution. They recommended Dobinsons (constant heavy load/55mm lift) spring pack. They’ve needed to use custom leafs before but mostly in bigger lifts with heavier loads. They setup a lot of Toyotas with these campers, leaning towards their advice and complete the Dobinsons lift kit with the rear leaf-pack. Also saves a lot of dough and I’d have them next week. Have a trusted installer who quoted an inexpensive labor cost for swap out. Getting close to pulling the trigger :spending:

For anyone who has changed out their leaf pack, shackles, etc. to get additional height, has anyone had issues with their Fox TRD Pro rear shocks? I'm a little concerned that is I get the height up 1-2" I'm going to need a long travel rear setup. I'm not wheeling my track but I do plan on overlanding it on dirt/gravel roads and forest roads with minimal improvements. I'm not wanting to change my rear shocks.

Food for thought. Not for everyone but a a good leaf option wit versatile weight options and are ready available right now. Not to expensive either.

I think this is the route I'm going with CB +1 shackles. I'm going to have a constant load of 500lbs+ and a trailer with a tongue weight of 350lbs. to tow across the country. Fingers crossed my rear shocks can handle it.

Stock Fox shocks. With my constant load I'm expecting just about 2-2.5" rear lift with Icons set to option 3 with the CB +1 shackles. Best I can figure, anyway. I've been getting analysis paralysis on this for three months now.

So I have had two independent shops tell me the Fox suspension is “position sensitive” and they don’t recommend lifting the rear end much more then an inch above factory height.

Has anyone here heard this before?
